Look at the distributor cap and make sure the electrical connectors are firmly inplace....If this appears to be fine it sounds like you either have a bad ground on your coil or coil itself is in need of replacement.... The coil is located right on top of the distributor...You can loosen the four bolts and check if any corrosion is present...If you have never done this before it is really quite easy just pay attention to the way it disassembles for proper install.....Good Luck.....

You mentioned the fuelpump was replaced ,how about the fuel filter????an easy way to see if you are getting spark is to remove air-cleaner assembly and spray some starting fluid into throttle bodyif vehicle starts and then stumbles you have assured yourself the problem lies with the fuel delivery...Good Luck

Pull the dist. cap of and inspect rotor and contacts. If the rotor has a lot of graphite dust in the center this may cause the coil to fire at more than one cylinder and cause the module to over heat for just a moment. Just fixed a gm truck that was doing this. Cap and rotor.

1990 cadillac seville wont start, it say starting disabled, what can i do to try and make this go away?

sounds like your going to have to replace the ignition tumbler, that is if your key has the small chip in it mounted in rubber,if you would like to disable it for good you can just buy another cylinder with key and plug it into the harness under the dash that runns up to your current tumbler and just put the key in the on position in the new tumbler and just tuck the whole thing up under your dash and the car will think the key is in the ignition and disable the alarm and your normal key will just start the car as normal, hope this helps

Trouble starting

I would check the connections to the battery, then take it to an auto parts store or auto service center to test the condition of the battery and to test the starter. If the battery is good then the starter could be going bad if the starter takes too much amperage when cranking the engine and doesn't turn at a normal rate of speed.

My car wont stay on. the starter works and it makes a noise like its turning on but doesnt stay. could it be an electric problem? the car is a cadillac seville 1990. i had a mechanic take a look and try to...

Does it have a security system? If it does see if the security light is flashing. If it is you can reset most cars by turning the ignition to on and waiting for the security light to go off. Then it will start. This will happen again.

Just a wild guess.

Splice the wires running from the keyswitch down the steering column under the dash and install a 100 amp resister from radioshack, this fools the computer and the car will start.Believe me I have been driving mine like that for 5 years.

1990 cadillac seville brake arm

You would have to take a picture and send to mcalkins3@yahoo.com to verify fix. Sadly if its that bad I imagine the rest of the car is pretty rough underneath. Technically speaking if the car is worth fixing the welder would have to be an up to date D.O.T cerfitied welder.

It might be the fan relay switch. When the car gets warm check to see if the fan comes on.
