2000 toyota echo dies in gear

Okay so i was driving and all is fine and then i stop at a light and then when i started to go again the car revved up really high and then low and then started to go so i drove down the street a little and stoped at another light and then when i went to go and took my foot of the brake it made like a weird kinda drop noise and died. so i tried to start it and it turns over just fine and idles if in park or N but if i put it in gear it idles for a sec and then dies but if i put it in gear and put my foot on the gas or break it dies right away??????? is it something to do with the transmission?????

I don't think it has anything to do with the transmission. You say that when you put it in gear it dies but it will idle in park or neutral. It sounds like it may have something to do with the idle air control or the mass air flow sensors. I own a 2001 echo and my idle air control module went bad and it had similar problems that you have described. I hope that this is helpful.

Just look around for any broken vacuum hoses. Is it running fast at idle? If you want to get a good answer for your problem you have to get one thats wanting to help someone. Check the big hose that goes to your power brake booster and see if it has a hole in it.Check the booster too because if its bad when you brake it would be a vacuum leak.

Sounds like a vacuum problem with the transmission. Modulator maybe?
Take it to an auto trans specialist.

2003 Toyota Echo will not communicate with inspection machine

I know why. Toyota issued a technical service bulletin (TSB) dated September 8, 2003 applicable to all models, including yours. The bulletin specifies removal of the original DLC3 (OBDII connector cable) and installation of a controller area network (CAN) interface module. You may have to take your ECHO to a Toyota dealer to accomplish this.

Car dies at low Idle

You have a problem in the battery charging system, have an Autozone test it, more than likely the Alternator has failed. A battery light does not mean you have a battery problem problem, it means the charging system voltage is lower than the battery voltage.

What is required for a 2001 toyota echo tune up?

I also have a Echo and would suggest:
Air filter, spark plugs. If it is still sluggish I would then replace the upstream 02 sensor. The fuel filter is apparently lifetime so it should be okay.

First thing to do is check the fluid level if that ok you may want to think about having the transmission filter and fluid changed, there are other possibilities but check these first
