Question about 1992 Buick Park Avenue

1 Answer

No overdrive, no cruise

1992 Buick Park Avenue Ultra Supercharged 3.8L OBD I system. SES light on, but no ck engine light. Speedo works, so I dont suspect VSS. Excel. throttle response, so dont suspect vacuum leak. Temp sensor ok, TPS ok...at least no codes to suggest any of these. When car is in third at about 45, if I ease up on gas pedal, tach goes down to 1500 to suggest third gear solinoid working...just no TCC.

Any Ideas? Thks......PHB

    Hmmm....That hose is at least 3/16ths of an inch thick, and very pliable. Im actually pretty impressed with the hose...not what I expected....I will, however take another look at it. Have you seen these hoses crack as if maybe...a manufacturer's flaw?
    Thanks for the response.....PHB

My 2002 buick park avenue ultra supercharged is overheating. Replaced water pump and radiator. The thermostat seems to open up. Tested spark plugs so I dont think its a head gasket issue. Any ideas?

I don't know what else would cause this overheat with the new parts you have installed other than a leaking (combustion gases getting into cooling system) head gasket

Can I put a 1997 3.8 non supercharged motor in a 1994 buick park avenue that had a non supercharged 3.8 motor in it

No. While the engine would probably bolt right in, there are two entirely different engine control systems for the two models. The '97 engine has OBD-II controls- more and different sensors and controllers, while the '94 engine has the less sophisticated OBD-1 system. They are not interchangeable. An engine from a '94 or '95 park avenue is your best choice. Any from 1996 onward is OBD-II (On Board Diagnostics, second generation).

Blower motor is good but blow

You have a problem with a baffle controller in the plentum(blower duct);
ck the heater fuses in the box under the driver dash and also ck the electronic control center box, (under hood I think) and look for a heater/blower relay and try to swap it with another relay that may be indentical just for test ;and replace as necessary. I think the baffle controls are electrical because they switch properly in my '91 without the motor running, ie, not vacuum controlled.
good luck.

94 Park Ave Ultra intermittent 'check engine soon light' comes on

It sounds like one of the ignition wires is breaking down or possibly a coil. Get a squirt bottle of water and spray a mist on the plug wires and coil to see if a spark starts to jump out. Probably just a bad plug wire.
