First time it happened, I made the mistake of trying to start the car with all the doors locked, then I didn't lock and unlock it with the keyfob, which made it not start, but now re-doing these things correctly aren't working, and the car simply isn't starting, it doesn't try, the same way it doesn't try when the doors are locked, am I doing something else wrong? This really is such nonsense, what ever happened to just unlocking the door with the key, putting it in the ignition, turning it and starting the car? What's next? Twenty nine letter passwords?

Old new beetle VW harness has contact resistance problems(vibration of wires) and needs to be recrimped the long wires(vibration can be stopped by silicone rubber anchoring). Cold weather make battery voltages low and needs recharged with handbrake on(headlamps off) 10 minutes warming engine up the whole winter.
I have problems with all door locks. Some work some others don't. Or right side of the car won't lock or unlock. Or the left side won't unlock or lock. Or they all work great . When it's very hot outside none will or will. What's the problem.
check fuses. I have a button that unlatches the back glass that is up by the instrument panel. I pushed that button a million times. Then I realized that the cab lights weren't working so I replaced the fuse, which happened to fix the back door!
Sounds like the locking mechanism in the passenger door may need lubrication. You could also have a wiring issue and/or the actuator solenoid on that door could be bad. I'm assuming you are using the keyless locking fob. What happens when you push the door locking button on the driver's side door or the locking button on the passenger door itself? If these work as they should and with not hesitation then you likely have some other problem in the locking system.
Just a quick note once you hook the battery back up try locking it and unlocking it from the drivers door, if that fails you might try the passenger door. I know on some chrysler products you have to lock and lock again to arm and unlock to disarm. I hope this helps. Thanks, Joey
from outside the car make sure all doors a closed completely, make sure hood and trunk are also closed. lock the vehicle with the remote, unlock it and repeat, lock and unlock. if it still wont start, put the key in the driver door lock, lock and unlock the door three times with the key, then try to start.
YOUR WIRELESS CONTROL MODULE(SENTRY KEY MODULE)MAY BE ELECTRICALLY LOCKED UP..THERE IS A SERVICE BULLETIN FROM CHRYSLER..YOU CAN REMOVE IOD FUSE IN FUSEBLOCK(UNDERHOOD BEHIND AIR CLEANER..IGNITION OFF DRAW(IOD)THIS WILL RESET WIRELESS CONTROL MODULE AND VEHICLE SHOULD START AND LOCKS RESPOND AGAIN..IF IT DOES,THE WCM WILL HAVE TO BE REPLACED AND THIS NEEDS TO BE DONE BY DEALER
