Question about 2002 Nissan Altima

4 Answers

About RPM I have a 2002 stick shift/ 5 speed Nissan Altima, it has,as far as i know a perfect engine, just one thing i am not sure of; when i hit the 75 mph the RPM will be at the 3000 rpm mark, and the faster i drive the higher it gets, i'd like to know if that is a problem i should do something about, thank you.

Thank you all for your input, and i agree with what you all said, but my wife has a 2005 toyota camry automatic, and the RPM on her car always at the 2500 mark, even when we drive at 80 mph, so that 's why i started wondering if i had a problem with my car.

02 Manual Nissan Altima, have to shift at 3000 rpm or lose all power. have to baby the gears as I speed up. whats going on with it?

bad compression, loose vacuum hose, dragging brakes.
sounds like you need the services of a ASE mechanic...
Do you have smog check in your state?
whens last time you did tune-up(plugs, wires, air/fuel filter.. etc.)?

do you track your MPG on each tank?
do it and it will be an early warning system if you have a pending failure in teh car.

if all else fails, sell it and buy a honda/toyota or a dodge viper...
LOL

Nissan altima 2005 not shifting or showing speed

The speed sensor is probably disconnected or the wiring was damaged. The CPU needs this input to demand shifts.

The RPM of Nissan Altima stays high when drive over 65 MPH.

No....the rpms differ from engine to engine and from manufacturer to manufacturer. RPM's are always higher at higher speeds.

Stick shift # Automatic RPM

That is normal,If you do the same speed in 4th gear the rpm's will almost double.

The rpm's will repond faster in a manual than an automatic.

In a manual the engine supplies the power required directly to the gear that you have selected thus the engine rpm's will increase or decrease as needed.

I put my scanner on mother's car 2002 altima got code PO-725

Does the vehicle shift funny? The code means engine speed signal which is probably the vehicle speed sensor is defective. It is located on the transmission where the speedometer cable used to go. Is located under the hood by the firewall.
