Question about 1996 Jeep Grand Cherokee

1 Answer

96 Jeep Grand Cherokee automatic locks

After I reach the locking speed, the locks will intermittently re-lock. they seem to do it more after a car wash or on wet days. Also dome light would turn off and on as I drove, so I pulled the dome light relay in the kick panel because it was killing the battery. Is there a switch on the tranny or anywhere else that would cause this problem?

Dont have a module. Wouldnt ground affect more than just locks and dome light? But, since you mention it, have gotten some shocks from door getting out.

Wait, brain fart, whats the body control module, where would it be?

  • pierre65 Jan 07, 2009

Body control module is located to left of steering wheel behind the headlight switch.

As I said, check body grounds (re-ground dash if necessary) I don't have the info I need to give you much info on your wiring, but I seem to remember a potential problem in the overhead console, with water getting in and messing with lock module (keyless entry) See if disconnecting it changes anything).

do you have a body control module on that vehicle? Got any codes? have you checked body grounds?

There is a broken wire in the rubber casing between the door and the vehicle. Take the rubber casing off and you will more than likely find a broken wire or one about to break. Been there and done that.

Automatic door locks 15 mph or above

I have had this problem once before. I solved it by resetting the "automatic locks" setting on the overhead console...first turned this off and then turned it back on a day later and the locks worked again fine.
