It involves a little tricky manouvering under the dash to reach the switch and you need to be very aware of the orientation when fitting. PLEASE BE AWARE that you are messing with the brake pedal and if you fit this part incorrectly you could interfere with the brake pedal travel and cause a dangerous driving situation. Only fit this part once you have fully inspected the part to be removed, and preferably look at a workshop diagram. Some switches are easy some are not. Most take me 10-15 mins.

Brake lights stay on after car is off

You may have a failed/failing brake light switch. I would look under the hood, find the brake master cylinder. Generally, the brake light switch is located on the master cylinder. Last time I messed with one, it was easy to fix. The hassle was bleeding the brakes afterward.

I Have a 99 expedition eddie bauer. My brake lights wont come on till i push the pedal almost to the floor. Can u tell me whether i need to replace the brake light switch.

I had a similar problem when I owned a 1997 Expedition. In my case, the brake light switch, mounted to the brake pedal arm, was faulty. My guess is that you have a similar problem. Pretty easy to replace... couple of wires and a clip as I recall.

Good luck.

My rear brake lights their not working

First check your brake light fuse, it that's ok, then you need to replace brake light switch. It's located just above brake pedal under dash. Small plastic switch w/a couple of wires from it. Easy fix

How to get steering out of park

I assume you mean that the shift lever will not move out of "PARK".
This is probably because the Shift Interlock Solenoid is not working properly.

This can be caused by a problem in your brake lamp circuit. Check to see if your brake lamps are working. If they are not working, you probably have a bad brake lamp switch.

Rear brake lights wont work fuse good new bulbs?

There's a brake light switch mounted near the shaft that your brake pedal is mounted to. It's a plunger switch, and it should be easy to find. Press it in manually and your brake lights should come on (if not, the switch needs to be replaced). If the lights come on when you press the switch, press it a few times and/or lube it with a shot of WD40 or a similar product, and chances are that it will start working again. If not, the switch is inexpensive and easy to replace, and you can find the right one for your vehicle at just about any parts store.

Chances are the brake switch has failed. The switch is located at the brake pedal in the front or behind the pedal arm. You will have to be on your back looking in order to see it. There will be a two wire switch. When the brake pedal is depressed the contacts on the switch open (or close depending on how the switch is placed) that in turn illuminates the brake lights. Easy to check with a 12 volt test light. One of the wires at the connector will be the power wire, with the test light grounded, probe one of the wires - the power wire should light the test light up. If neither wire light the test light then you have an open on the power circuit. You will need a wiring diagram to find out which wire is the power wire and trace it back until you find the open. If the switch is getting power and the brake lights are not illuminating,, the switch is bad and will have to be replaced. A fairly inexpensive part and fairly easy to replace. If you have little or no mechanical experience you may need to get a technician to replace it. The replacement switch may come with instructions on how to replace it. Hope this helps.

HI, this will occur if the brake switch is unstable. this switch should be located under the dash in close proximity of the brake pedal shaft. replace this damaged switch asap.

My brake lights still on even if I turn the engine off!!!

It sounds like your brake light switch is stuck on. You can try to pull it out or just replace it as they aren't very expensive and pretty easy to replace. It is located on the brake pedal and sometimes they just go bad. Weird that you have two at the same time. Good luck and thanks for using FixYa!
