I have a 93 cavalier just put motor back in and got it running finally but it idles real rough but it drives fine just rough idle and not it is smoking real bad out the exhaust and spitting oil out the tail pipe when accelerating it hard and also smoking under hood where the exhaust manifold bolts to the actual pipe and i went through oil in the car very quickly. Im thinking valve guides any other suggestions.

Sounds like possibly more than on problem, crankshaft position sensor, or ignition module likely on starting prob which maybe affecting shifting due to hard code in ecm, or shift prob could be shift solenoid in valve body of transmission. Both parts readily available from local parts store
Yes it is fuel injected. If it runs but has no power there is a good chance that an ignition coil went bad and there would be no spark to two cylinders. Cylinders 1 and 4 are partners on the same coil and 2 and 3 are partners. Usually these cars if an injector goes bad they have an external leak.
You can try to listen to them by holding a screw driver to each on while its running but I don't think
that will be your problem anyway.Another giveaway for the coil could be a gas smell like it is partially flooded. When you changed the plugs were any of them wet with fuel ? There is also a chance that if the engine works ok at highway speeds that the egr valve is stuck open. This causes
rough running at idle and bad hesitation until highway speed is achieved. Hope this helps or let me know and we'll figure it out.
your probably feeling a rough idle of the engine. need a tune up?
in park the engine is not loaded down, just idling at a low rpm=rough
in drive with brake on you have put some load on motor also at low rpm=rough
in drive on the road engine is at higher rpm, = smoother
generally 4 cylinder motors idle a bit rough, especially if one spark plug is not firing right or fouled or one bad spark plug wire. tune up may fix it. if it is not stumbling real bad or stalling then you can live with it.
