Is SAE 5W - 30 ok for my old Jeep and Cheyenne...

Its probably ok but I would recommend 10w30 for anything with more than 100,000 miles on the odometer.
Also, 5w30 works better in colder temps, the first number is the "cold thickness" and the second number is the "hot thickness". The bigger the number the thicker the oil in basic terms.

IF YOU HAS GAS ENGINE USE API CERTIFIED FOR GAS ENGINES USE 5W 30 FOR COLD WEATHER. YOU CAN USE 5W 40 FOR WARM AND HOT CLIMATE. FOR DIESEL ENGINE YOU NEED API SERVICE CF4 OR CG4 USE MOBILE 1 OIL 5W 30 COLD WEATHER AND 5W 40 FOR HOT CLIMATES ALSO CHECK IN OWNERS MANUAL.TO BE ON THE SAFE SIDE OR ASK THE AUTO PARTS SALESPERSON TO LOOK UP TYPE OF OIL YOU SHOULD USE TO KEEP FROM DAMAGING THE ENGINE IF YOU HAVE TURBOCHARGER.

I have conflicting advice as to whether i should be using synthetic or standard oil. please advise

VW group have TWO service regimes,annually/10k or extended ( when the service indicator shows when you need to service it).this is set when the dealer supplies the car NEW.it cannot be reset after.VW group products fit 5/30 fully synthetic when new and the type of oil for services is determined by the service type,I.E. annual/10k services, use 10/40 semi synthetic and for extended/20k services use 10/40 fully synthetic.check the oil every 500 miles as ALL VW will use oil.if you bought the car used, then, rather than use the service indicator, do an oil change EVERY year and use semi 10/40.if a dealer services the car the service indicator should be reset EVERY time.

What kind of oil do a 2000 Audi 2.8 Quattro A6 use?

The engine oil specification for 2000 Audi 2.8 V6 Quattro is:
- Cold climate: 5W/30 or 5W/40 semi-synthetic
- Moderate climate: 10W/30 or 10W/40 semi-synthetic
- Hot climate: 10W/40 semi-synthetic

Long life service = MY 2000 ---->
Engine oil grade: 0W/30 synthetic oil to VW specification 503.00/W12 and turbo engines above 154 kW / 200 PS = 503.01

Recommended oil for this vehicle

This is a pretty vague question, however i would suggest a 5W-30, as this is pretty universal; the higer the number the thicker it will be, the thicker it is sometimes the harder it is to run. These numbers are based off the temperature of the oil. So that is why i recomend 5W-30, as the engine is cold the '5' is in place so it is thinner and is easy to start, once the motor gets hot as with the oil, then it gets to the 30 weight oil thickness at that temperature. However if you live in extreme hot or extreme cold i would adjust. higher numbers or just sae 30 for hot, and maybe 10w-30 if you are in say...canada; best of luck

What oil type do I use...2003 vw beetle?

if U live in a cold climate use 5W-30W, if u live in a moderate climate with hot summers use 10W-30W, any name brand meets your engines requirements. Do not use any oils heavier than these two, it can cause engine bearing damage.
