The oil pressure always runs high unless you gun the engine then it will lower the pressure. When you resume normal speed it returns to high.

Might be that the oil pressure switch is going out. Unless this has been happening for a while now.

Oil pressure seems to go to high while driving then when car is stopped it will read around 3/4.

The oil pressure will not always stay steady. When the oil gets hot it will read lower and higher with the RPM's.Pressures will read higher when you first start the engine then drop the hotter it gets.If it has not always been this way you may have a oil pressure sending unit going bad.

2002 Jeep Grand Cherokee 4.0L oil pressure gauge reading too high

if the gauge starts a 0 - goes to 1/2 , than full - sounds like gauge is OK - seems to me like the sending unit is bad - you could try removing the sender and trying to clean out the port with "brake clean", letting it dry than re-installing it. the pressure switch is still the least expensive place to start

Oil Pressure Always Runs High - 2002 Grand Jeep Cherokee

If your oil pressure is running in the red this would indicate too much oil in the system. You should have your oil changed and refilled soon or you run the risk of burning out the oil pump. At idle your pressure should be just over a quarter of what your gauge has. At highway speed it should not exceed 3/4 of the gauge unless your going in excess of 100 MPH. Change the oil and filter and your vehicle should be fine.

No/low oil pressure, high engine temp

I think you have a bad ground on your engine gages...but, more importantly, have your oil pressure checked by a mechanic.  If it is indeed only 20 pounds the engine is sadly on it's last legs.
When you receive advice from this website you have to understand that without the item in front of us, we are only able to provide "a best guess" as to what the problem might be based on you description of the defect.  If you haven't described a clear and precise description of the defect you decrease the chances of an accurate reply.  Thank you.

Engine light on/Oil Gauge on stays on high

Any waranties left? Is oil full? Any noises from engine? Did you put a mechanical gauge on it and check "real" oil pressure? (I would not drive it 'till I was sure about actual oil pressure!!)

High engine oil presure

Hi, I had the same problem, same vehicle (same year), same engine. I bought an oil pressure tester at Harbor freight tools for $ 8. I was trying to figure out, if the pressure is really high, or just the sending unit is defective. The tester after connecting it to my engine was reading correct pressure for this vehicle ( between 25-30 PSI when idelling), which showed that the oil pressure sending unit is defective. At Advanced autopart store they want about $ 47 for the sending unit, so I put the defective one back in place (still reading H). I'm planning to replace it after next pay check :o) Good luck.
