Question about 2003 Ford Focus
It was working just fine on Friday and when I tried to start the car with in on Sunday it wouldn't work - the batteries seem to be fine - would go to the guy that installed it but they have gone bankrupt and have left no forwarding address!! I tried turning on the valet parking and then turning it off but no luck.. help!
SOURCE: 1999 Ford Taurus Wont Start
Tapping the starter does not always work. I would check all the connections on the battery and starter. If these are good replace the starter. Don't forget the grounds.

its the starter the solenoid is grounded though the starter when you put positive power to
the solenoid its grounded through the starter windings. when brush's start waring out
the stater cannot keep the currant constant under the load of starting the engine. but out of the car
the starter will run. if you bypass the solenoid it can not engage the flywheel and the starter
it will spin. It's the starter and get a new solenoid too.

SOURCE: 2000 Windstar cannot start
I JUST HAD THE EXACT SAME PROBLEM ON MY 2000 WINDSTAR SEL LAST WEEK..IT WAS JUST ELECTRICALLY DEAD..I CHECKED OVER THAT THING WITH A FINE TOOTH COMB AND COULD NOT AT FIRST FIND THE PROBLEM..WELL AS IT TURNS OUT, MY INSTRUMENT CLUSTER WAS BAD AND IT WAS CAUSING ALL THIS HAVICK !!! I REPLACED THE CLUSTER ONLY TO FIND OUT THAT THE DEALERSHIP HAD TO PROGRAM IT BEFORE THE VEHICLE WOULD START DUE TO THE ANTI-THEFT SYSTEM..IM NOT SURE IF THIS IS YOUR PROBLEM BUT IT IS IDENTICAL TO MINE AND I REALLY HOPE THIS HELPS..
P.S.-I GOT MY CLUSTER AT A JUNKYARD BECAUSE A NEW ONE CAN BE PRICEY !!

A FORD MACHANIC HAS TOLD ME THAT IN FACT THE KEY HAS TO BE RECODED. MY SITUATION IS EXACTLY THE SAME. HE SAID TO RECODE THE KEY I HAD TO TURN THE IGNITION TO THE RUN POSITION, THE SECURITY LIGHT ON THE DASH WILL FLASH RAPIDLY AND CONTINUE TO FLASH FOR 15 MINUTES . WITHIN FIVE MINUTES AFTER THE LIGHT STOPS FLASHING I MUST TURN OFF THE IGNITION FOR ONE SECOND AND TURN IMMEDIATLY BACK TO THE RUN POSITION FOR 15 MORE MINUTES. THE LIGHT WILL GO OFF AGAIN . WITHIN 5 MIN. I MUST TURN OFF THE IGNITION FOR ONE SECOND AND TURN BACK TU RUNNING POSITION. 15 MINUTES LATER REPEAT STEPS AGAIN AND THE KEY WILL BE REPROGRAMMED, AND STSRT THE CAR. GOOD LUCK MY CONTACT IS A FORD MASTER MECHANIC.
