My 318i is making a noise when running, sounds like it is coming from the A/C compressor. Any ideas please.

I recently had a very similar problem on a 87 318is.
The noise was a whistling/squeeling noise, when listening with a short length of hose pipe the source of the noise could not be positively located.
It seemed to be coming from many areas of the engine.

It turned out to be the PCV causing the problem- it was leaking causing a strong vacuum on the crankcase, which caused crankshaft oil seals to whistle as they leaked in air.

Two giveaway symptoms of this particular problem are:-
1) If the oil filler cap is removed briefly, noise immediately stops,
2) whistle noise continues for 1-2 seconds after the engine is stopped, sounding like something physicly rotating running down.

If you think its a belt squealing hold a graphite pencil lead (very carefully) against the belt face and listen for a noise change.

Note -Take care with the listening hose around the serpentine belt, as it can quickly grab it and dismount the belt - leaving you with another unwanted problem.

i hope it's not your timing belt beating on the plastic guards either . use a garden hose to listen through and try and see if it's a jingle noise or chain slapping on metal noise ..good luck hope you find out what's happening before something bigger goes , find a good mechanic u trust diagnosis is probly around 40$

My hotpoint washing machine mod WWSR1070D5WW is making a loud squealing noise but I cant tell if the sound is coming from the clutch or the transmission any ideas?

look at the drive belt, it might be worn out
To test, just put some tar all along the inner face of the belt and run it
If noise goes off, , most surely the belt need replacement

I have dexcool pooring from the bottom of my 2005 pontiac grand prixs a/c compressor? does the A/C compressor have rad fluid in it?

The dexcool isn't coming from the A/C compressor ! More then likely coming from the engine . No the A/C compressor doesn't have coolant in it , has refrigerant ! Sounds to me like your engine has a problem ! Your best bet would be to take it to a qualified repair shop !

Bad oil pump ?

Turn your A/C off, the compressor can make noise if bearings are dry or system is low on compressor oil.
Remove your serpentine belt. Turn pulleys by hand to check for roughness. Bearings in those pulleys routinely go bad.
You may get computer warnings with the following test, but with serpentine belt removed, run engine for 2 or 3 minutes. Do this on a warm engine after serpentine belt is removed. The warm oil will not mask the problem like cold thick oil can. Noise generated means problem is internal.
If this is a stick shift transmission sometimes the clutch bearing can make noise and is a sign that bearing is bad.

After I drive around in my mini van i hear a loud rattling noise. It seems that it is coming from the a/c each time it comes on. Once i turn the a/c off the noise stops. Any thoughts?

HI, this sounds like you have a normal Chrysler A/C compressor starting to fail. The electric clutch on the front of the compressors fall apart and cause this rattling noise.
YOu can get a good idea if this is the problem by standing on the passenger side and watching the A/C compressor and belt as someone turns the A/C on and off. Good luck

2000 Chevy Cavalier making a noise when air is shut off

This problem sounds like the aircompressor pully, the bearing is shot.
With the engine running and the air conditioner off there is a grinding noise, look at the compressor pully, does it wobble? Then turn on the air conditioner and the noise stops, look at the compressor pully again, the wobble stops? If so that's the problem.

There is a loud noise coming from my engine ..sometimes..

oh ok, you probably have air shocks and that is the compressor running... makes sense that it sounds with the engine off... it should not be a loud sound though, normally it's quite quiet and you only hear a faint noise... if it is that loud it's probably a bad compressor
