Will not start

Tried 10x to start the car and did not start and just happen to start 1x so drove to my mechanic. He put in a starter, has a new battery. It started 3x and took it out and did not start. Turn the ignition key and the lights come on, but nothing happens and does not start. could it be electrical?

  1. Yes absolutely
  2. Could be a bad ignition switch
  3. Could be a bad NEUTRAL SAFETY SWITCH ..Try moving shift to NEUTRAL when it doesn't start or wiggle in par and see if it starts. However because its an electrical part (STARTER) It could be defective and should be under warranty. Good Luck and contact if you need more help. Thanks for using FIX YA

If all the lights etc work, your problem lies in the ignition. Seek the advice of a different mechanic. Someone that specializes in electrical troubleshooting.

May be ab bad starter solenoid, or corroded/loose connection at starter, or (ground). Could also be a bad ignition switch. Start from the load; the starter. Test for 12V at starter, OK. Connect short wire from starter and touch sylenoid connection..

You can take out the spark plugs, keep track of your spark plug wire order, try to crank it over see if the engine turns over.

Check voltage on your new battery, some need to charge when new.

check for corrosion on the battery and starter cables.

try shifting to neutral to start the car. There is a neutral safety switch to prevent you from starting in gear. If the switch fails then the starter will not get the "signal" to turn over. Just moving the shifter sometimes frees up the switch. You may have a problem with your ignition switch as well. again just mass with it a bit.

lastly you may have a problem with an alarm system or ignition imobilizer, or chipped key

Probably a loose or corroded wire. Tell the mechanic to check the main wiring harness. Simply disconnecting and reconnnecting all the plugs might fix it.

It's probably one of these:

1.NSS- (Neutral Safety Switch)
2.CPS- (Crankshaft Position Sensor)

**Look here-
CPS 1/2 way down..
