What should the volt meter read on the fuel tank switch?

Neither of my tanks are registering any gas even when they're both full. the truck runs like a charm, i just have to keep up with the mileage. i was going to test my switch with a volt meter, being that the switch is a common problem.

Check the wires sounds like you have a bad ground wire . if you ground the wire that goes to the tank it should read full.and if no ground on it will show empty ....check your grounds to the tank. is there any rust .

My car has a full tank of gas but the meter reading says empty

If the vehicle still runs fine, then its a strong possibility that you fuel level sending unit is going bad. It's part of the fuel pump assembly located in the fuel tank.

The gas gauge reads empty and gas light is on even when gas tank is full

this problem is caused by a defective gas tank sending unit for the gage and the low fuel light, replace the sending unit.

Fuel gauge not give proper reading.. register full

Sorry to say,but the fuel sending unit is the problem, the fuel tank will have to be lowered out of the vehicle to replace the unit.If the fuel sending unit is not available by itself you will have to replace the whole fuel pump assembley.

I have Nissan Altima with incorrect guage reading

The Correct Rerpair for this to to REPLACE the FUEL LEVEL Sending UNIT. It is Located INSIDE the Fuel Tank, After Reserching this through Numerous Resources I Have Fould that it is Incorperated into the FUEL PUMP. So You can Use your Current Calibration Method or Replace Fuel PUMP. Looking at the Vehicle AGE and IF IT HAS OVER 100K Miles on it , It is Advisable for you to Replace the INTIRE UNIT. It is OBVIOUSLY Not Manditory as the Vehicle is RUNNING, But If you Wish to Have Accurate FUEL LEVEL Reading Replacment is the ONLY OPTION.

Fuel gauge reads E when first started, jumps to F after awhile

It is more likely to be the fuel guage sender which is faulty.
