Hi there
IF you have checked the lines for air leaks, and are sure that there is no restriction in the sending unit/fuel pickup in the tank, then I would take a long hard look at the fuel pump. It could be on backwards!!
Try bypassing the filter and see if it **** from a can of gas and check the fuel tank for any possible clogs

Good luck and kind regards

Yes. I do not fill a new fuel line/filter with fuel. I put it on and hook up the tank to filter line then **** on the output side of the fuel filter until diesel comes out. That way I know I'm getting fuel from the tank and the air is out of the lines. If you do this with lung power instead of a vacuum pump use a long (4 feet or more) clear tube to be sure to keep fuel away from your mouth. This can also be done on the output of the injector pump to prime it.
Purchase a cheap vacuum pump however, as they are relatively cheap. Im an old-timer and dont care about the fumes :)
Also, if there is still little flow, Check the pickup in the tank, Diesel fuel can grow algae-like stuff.

Make sure that pump is getting power first, If not check all WIRING AND PUMP FUSE AND RELAY. If after all of this it still doesn't work the pump is defective(verytpossible with any electrical item). As long as there is fuel in the tank pump does not need priming. Good Luck =,conatct if you need more info and thanks for using FIX YA

Will my mechanical fuel pump work if I disconnect the power to my in-tank electric fuel pump? Can I remove my return line and vapor line?

most likely not as it will not be able to draw fuel through the electric pump .Well most vehicles with fuel injection and a pump in the tank i cannot draw the fuel through when someone has filled with diesel or the vehicle has been parked up for a while and the fuel goes dead

What is the best way to deal with 2 gallons of gas in 2003 TDI? I can't get a hose in deep enough to siphon it. Am thinking about removing line to fuel pump.

FOR TDI ENGINES WHICH IS TURBO DIESEL INJECTION. THE FUEL SYSTEM CONSISTS OF FUEL INJECTION PUMP WHICH DRAW FUEL FROM FUEL TANK THROUGH A FUEL FILTER NO OTHER FUEL PUMP IS USED. YOUR FUEL INJECTION PUMP HAS A ELECTRIC FUEL PUMP BUILT INSIDE INJECTION PUMP ITSELF YOU DONT HAVE TO DROP FUEL TANK.FUEL PUMP IS UNDER THE HOOD.YOUR FUEL INJECTION PUMP IS THE FUEL SUPPLY PUMP.

Have 1996 Ford F350 Diesel that will crank but will not start. Kind of like it is not getting any fuel? Help

crack on of the injector pipes and see if its got fuel coming up ,if no fuel then either no diesel in tank or the transfer pump has packed up and this year has the lift pump built into the pump so fitting a non return valve on the inlet and return sides will help if the valves in the pump are weak ,as close to the pump as possible does the trick ,also check for a perished or porous pipe on the inlet side of the pump ,look at the top of the fuel tank especially as this is the most obvious place they go as its not seen very often ,whatever the problem is its because its drawing in air

When were the glow plugs last changed?

They sit over the cylinder like spark plugs and warm the diesel before it goes into the inlet manifold, greatly assists starting.

Hey bro, your diesel pump might be on the way out but here are some things to check and do and see if they help.

Replace the hoses going from the pump to the diesel filter with new ones.

Use fuel injector type clamps, NOT gear clamps they don't tighten enough to stop air not getting in.

Change the diesel filter, and make sure the drain on the bottom of it, if it has one which most do, is nice and tight.

Air bubbles in the injection lines are usually a sign of a weakening injection pump but I ran mine like that for a long time, the air works it's way through. Are you leaking any diesel? Maybe check the returns to the tank. Cheers bro.

Ran out of diesel 1.9 TDi 74kw. have refuelled and cranked engine for 15mins and still it won't start. there is fuel from tank to filter, to pump and return flow.

This is very important for Audi 1.9 TDI engine: IT IS FORBIDDEN TO RUN WITHOUT DIESEL FUEL IN RESERVOIR !!!
This type of engine is equipped with pump-nozzle injectors which develop up to 2050 bar injection pressure !
Remove the fuel filter, fill up with diesel fuel and put in place. After that try to start the engine with accelerator pedal to the floor. Heed of electric starter motor temperature and battery status! After 40 - 50 sec. of start attempting wait for 1 - 2 minutes for battery and electric starter motor revival. After few starting attemptions the engine must start.

My Audi A4 2000 TDI year 2005 has run on two tanks of Bio fuel recently and it hasn't recovered... started stuttering. Fuel system has been flushed out, air flow mand air flow meter has been changed but...

Audi 1.9 TDI and 2.0 TDI engines with pump-nozzle injection system, (year 2005 included), don't have permission to run with Bio fuel !!!
First you must replace fuel filter, interflow a quality Diesel additive (for 60 liters Diesel fuel dosage) fill up tank with Diesel fuel and run at least 300 km on highway at 3000-3500 rpm in 4-th gear.
I recommend you Foerch Diesel Reiniger System additive! I use this additive from 3 years ago and is certified on Audi TDI engines!

SOUND LIKE DIESEL INJECTION PUMP IS DRY.YOU GOING TO HAVE TO USE A HAND HELD VACUUM PUMP.HOOK IT TO THE RETURN LINE FITTING AND DRAW FUEL INTO THE FUEL INJECTION PUMP.

try loosening the injector lines a little then crank it.it probably has air in the lines and wont blow through the injectors, once fuel comes out while cranking, tighten them,if this is the problem it should start but run rough untill the lines are tight,it shouldnt hurt much to get a little fuel on the engine
