Remote for keyless entry dropped in water

I dropped my keyless entry remote in water. Dealer is asking almost $200 to fix it.
Is there any way, I can fix it myself or get it done cheaper?
If I can buy new honda remote part and somehow program it to work with existing chip?

This incident happened two yrs back. I guess, it's too late for drying out remote etc. I tried changing new battery too.

I went swimming in a river and dropped it . I found it after 2 days and it wasn't working. I opened it up,cleaned it with rubbing alcohol, and dried it and it still does not work. I'll see if replacing the batteries helps.

Usually ekectronics and water don't mix. If you managed to dry it, it may work, but not the same. If you are really lucky, it will work fine. When dropping anything electronic in water, do not press any buttons and remove the battery immediately. Dry the insides carefully as best you can. Cotton swabs work well. Then allow to dry for a long period of time. Replace the battery with a new battery and may work. I feel the dealer will not fix the remote for $200 but more likely they will give you a new one and program it for you. What I did for one car, was to go on e-bay and you will find an OEM keyless entry remote for less than half the price. Sometimes, there are programming instructions included in the price. Another vehicle, I was missing the remotes, and went to a scrap yard. They usually have all the remotes in a bin where you can pick and choose the best ones. You need to locate your FCCID # on the back of yours and match it with the same. Sometimes various FCC #s can be mixed. I then searched online for programming instructions and followed them. It worked great! The remote was $25 and saved $60 for programming.

Good luck.

I would remove the battery from it first and the dry it under a room warmer for a hour or two, and then reinstal the battery and try it out.

Replaced CR2032 battery in my pacificas keyless remote but it still wont work. I did not drop nor did water hit the remote. Was working fine one minute then died

First thing to do is check with your local Dodge dealer and see if the keyless remote is still under warranty. I had this same problem with a Dodge Durango Keyless remote. Problem was the + and - neg. connecters from battery to circuit board broke the solder connection going to the small circuit panel in the keyless remote, if this is the problem with yours, go the Radio Shack and buy a small 15watt soldering iron and solder for PC circuit boards and resolder it and it should fix the problem. If this did not fix it, the only thing to do is buy a new remote at your local Dodge dealer

Intall Remote Keyless Entry System in an 02 Honda Accord

You got the Wrong Information! Go to Wal Mart and Purchase a "Bulldog Security Keyless Entry" System for your Car. It will cost you a Quarter of the Price and is Just asw Reliable as the Factory Unit! Got one on My Truck with Remote Start also and it works GREAT! Should cost about $50.00 Bucks or so.

Keyless Entry Key Doesn't Work

Regarding the remote transmitter issue: Take the remote transmitter to your Toyota dealer. Ask them to test your transmitter with their hand-held RF detector. All Toyota dealers are required to have one of these devices. The RF detector will test the remote to see if it is indeed transmitting the proper RF out of the transmitter, and the strength of the RF signal. If there is no signal, the remote has failed (unfortunatly common), and the remote will need to be replaced and reprogrammed to the vehicle. I do this quite regularly, and rarely do I tell customers taht they need to spend 800 dollars for such a simple diagnosis/fix. The keyless system is very reliable. I rarely change the ECU for the keyless, unless somebody somehow gets the ECU wet, then it def needs replaced. Hope this helps.
