Do this

This problem is commonly caused by a dirty automatic idle speed control valve and throttle valve but always run a OBD2 fault code as well as the cleaning procedure. Buy a can of throttle valve cleaner (do not use carburetor spray cleaner!) from NAPA or Carquest (made by CRC chemicals) and spray it into the air intake while the engine is running, use up about 1/2 the can, engine will try to stall hold the speed up, shut it down and let it soak for 30 minutes, restart and blow out the remaining fluid, shut it down and disconnect the negative battery cable for 5 Min's to reset the base idle control. If the above cleaning doesn't cure your issues you need to have the computer controlled automatic idle speed control system diagnosed and repaired by a dealer or electronic engine control repair shop.

It could be your idle air bypass valve. They get sticky with age and don't let enough air around the throttle body to keep the car running when it's at idle.

Is the choke opening up all the way after it warms completly up ? and have you checked the fuel lines to the gas tank they might have got pinched in wreck.

I am having problems keeping my 86 camaro iroc z idling

Check your idle air stabalizer or sometimes called the idle air control valve, it may be clogged with carbon buildup and not working properly,

I need to adjust my fuel to air ratio on a 1986 Nissan how do i do that

OK, Im gonna assume you mean CARBURETED 86 truck, If you want to adjust idle mixture, there is a small (1/4 inch or so) plug in the base of the carb between 2 small vacuum hoses. Carefully remove it (punch a hole or drill it at an angle then bry it out with the hole you made and a small screwdriver). Then you can adjust IDLE mixture. Off idle, you may also have an altitude compensator (about the size of a tennis ball, 3 medium sized vacuum hoses to it side by side, 1 big nut and stud on 1 side). Adjusting that adjusts mixtures as well, but should be done only with an analyzer. beyond that, fuel is computer if its rich or lean, you have a mechanical issue or a fuel control problem...not an adjustment
