When you turn the key in run position, [not start] you should hear the pump hum for a few seconds. it's located in the gas tank.

It could be the fuel pump. Sometimes you can hear them engage, but they are not pushing enough fuel pressure to run the car. This can be checked.

it's probably the crankshaft position sensor. these are notorious on the 6 cylinder gm engines. tell your mechanic to diagnose the car and stop changing parts

Car wont start once ieng is shut off for 20mins or longer

this sounds like a defective fuel pump, but u will need to have the fuel pressure tested when it acts up to verify this is the issue 100%, the fuel pump is located inside the fuel tank.

1986 buick lesabre wont start

Fuel pumps use the surrounding gasoline to keep them cool while in operation. If you ran the car with very little gas in the tank you may have burnt out the fuel pump motor. Try this simple test. Make sure you have at least a 1/4 tank of gas in the tank, gently tap on the fuel tank with a rubber maillot, then try to start your car. If the car starts, then you have a bad fuel pump. If the car does not start, rea peat the test two more times. Please vote for this solution if you found this information helpful.

Run a self test on the computer for any trouble codes that might be stored that will lead us to the problem, Kragen auto and others will do this for free. get back to me on this thread with those codes.
