Fire hazard i have a 2001 freelander and when i switch on the engine it sounds like the cooling fan automatically comes on or like a unit overheating and when i knock it off after 2-3 mins smoke comes out the front left of the car. Afraid she will go on fire. Any solutions to what it might be?

I had similar problems 2 times with the automatic heat / AC module.
I suppose your system is automatic too.

First time the commands were working erratically acting weird. Sometimes was heating at full capacity blowing heads off. At other times it was not starting at all.
The whole module had to be replaced.

Second time if the car stayed in the sun the AC was heating, after starting the engine and cooling started only after achieving greater speeds (above ~60km/h). Whenever the speed decreased the system began to heat again eventually. It turned out that the engine cooling fan was broken and had to be replaced. That fan cools both the engine radiator and the AC radiator. If it is faulty your engine might be at risk of overheating at low speeds.

Engine over heats

Check for collapsed radiator hose first.

Do the cooling fans come on? If not, check fuse, relay and if still no function- fan thermostat switch.

If fans do come on, replace water pump.

My freelanders cooling fans keep coming on

have you checked the fan switch which should be on the radiator, maybe faulty and operating at the wrong tempreture.

Electric fan runs with A/C on. Does not come on with overheating

The mechanic should always know that the sensor is the one that sense or detect the problem of the car . The sensor is the one that tells if there is a problem in the electric unit of the car . The sensor is not the one controlling the electric cooling fan ,but it is the one that give warning that there is problem in that part of the car.

2002 landrover freelander cooling fan assembly

The fan module is the big silver box with fins on it, right next to the fans. Just follow the fan cables and you will find it. Don't jumper the fans without unplugging or you may destroy the power transistors in the fan unit. Check the temperature sensor for the fan control unit - near the front of the engine - it should have some resistance - not be short circuit or open circuit, it is a sensor, not a switch. If short or open, that is likely to be the problem, otherwise, ensure that the control units have electrical supply, otherwise, it is very likely to be the control unit.

use 50/50 mixture of coolant/water, use synthetic oil or no more than 5w 30. Change thermostat, make sure fans come on when idleing, otherwise change relay

Fan stays on when engine switched off

This sound is from the fuel burning heater situated in front of the left front wheel arch. It'staying on because the relay is sticking and forcing the system to work.Repair this by replacing the heater relay found solo next to the engine compartment fuse box.

2001 chevy malibu- when car starts cooling fans do not come on but then do

your coolant temp sensor on the engine block is probably faulty, however, keep in mind that if it really isn't all that hot outside they may not need to turn on. Once you activate the A/C the fans come on automatically since they have to cool the condensor...

If your car is not overheating do not worry about it.
