Any spark? pull a plug wire and leave it slightly off the plug, get someone to crank and listen for a clicking as the spark jumps/look to see if there is a spark. If there is a spark, pull the cover off the air filter spray a VERY SMALL SQUIRT of easy-start (ether) into the air intake and crank. if it runs a little you have a fuel problem.

Get someone to turn on the ignition key to the "ON" position just before actually cranking) while u listen outside under the fuel tank, the fuel pump should run for 2 secs so u should hear a buzzin noise coming from the fuel tank. you may need to repeat the Off-On thing a few times to hear it.
If you hear buzzin then the fuel pump is probably ok.
If you want to check for sure, you then need a fuel pressure gauge (theres a valve on the fuel rail) to see if you have fuel pressure. probably needs around 50-62 psi pressure. anything lower than 45 psi will not allow the injectors to fire.
If your fuel pump is buzzin and it wont start (with a spark present) it may well be the camshaft sensor which detects the engine position and instructs the computer when to fire the injectors. Faulty Cam sensor=injector non-fire.
If you have no spark at all (there are multiple ignition coils on your car) then the crank sensor is most likely failed. If your coil was faultty the car would run on fewer cylinders.
Also check that your main Ignition fuse isnt blown.

My buick century 1992 starts. it runs for awhile then shuts off. I had replace the plugs and wires and the temp gauge is find. what could be the problem?

This could be several things and this forum cannot support the multiple possibilities, however, I would check the following in this order:
1. Fuel pressure
2. Ignition system
3. Battery voltage under load.
4. Fuel filter
5. Any GM lockout or security systems

I know this is somewhat vague, but there are many, many potential causes.

I hope this helps:)

I have a 1998 buick century 3.1 with 163,000 miles. Some times when I give it gas there is hesitation. Last night my daughter had the car and it stalled and wouldn't start for about 20 minutes and when it...

When was the last time the fuel filter was replaced? you may have a fuel filter that is getting restricted or possible the fuel pump is going bad. You will need to check the fuel pump pressure, and see if you can blow through the fuel filter. Hope this helps.

1992 Buick Century Custom. Trouble starting as though not getting gas. Changed the fuel pump and filter and still has the problem. After a few trys it will start and run ok. ?????

Sounds like you need to replace the fuel pump relay which is about $13 at Autozone. It is simple to replace. It is under the hood on the passenger side right behind the headlights.

Car died. changed fuel pump and both filters. car will turn over but will not start. any help is appreciated.

Check for spark and fuel as a starting point. If you're getting fuel pressure at the rail, then the fuel pump and filters are not the problem.

Possible crankshaft sensor if the spark is not getting to the spark plugs in the 1992 Buick Century.

1992 Buick Century misses at all speeds, will occasionally die while at idle, but starts immediately and runs well except for the misfires. New air filter and plugs installed. Thinking plug wires and fuel...

At this point, replacing the plug wires is a great idea, especially if they are worn or over due for replacement, Always start with the basics...then proceed with diagnostics with possible engine management causes.

Shuts down after getting hot 1992 buick century custom has high mileage transmission is okay last tune up at 60,000 one plug was not changed hard to get to

What you need to do is check and see if your losing fuel or spark when it dies.If it`s spark then you probably have a bad ignition module. If fuel you will have to check the fuel pressure. If it is a 3.3 then it should be 41-47 psi.If not check fuel filter for being plugged. If ok then replace fuel pump.Hope this helps.Good luck.

1998 Buick Century losses significant power at lower speeds

Possibly the EGR valve or TPS sensor if you have CEL codes. Check fuel pressure and if low change fuel filter if it is still low replace the fuel pump I beleive it is suppossed to be 41 to 47 psi. Pretty easy to replace fuel filter the Buick Century has a cover you remove in the trunk to access the fuel pump making the change very easy, if you can fit in the cramped space of the trunk.
