Re: where to put transmission fluid in the 2003 alero
I presume that is a front wheel drive. look beside the motor at the transaxale (transmission) for a dipstick... the fluid is added into the same hole the dipstick goes... you'll need a funnel..... incidentally atf type transmission fluid is for fords .... might want to check your owners manual for the correct type you should use.

Transmission fluid (ATF), like engine oil, should be checked regularly. The transmission box has a dipstick, like the engine. To check the ATF level, firstly locate the dipstick which is in the engine compartment. You will see the tube which carries the dipstick runs at an angle to the transmission box as opposed to the engine oil dipstick which runs almost directly down.
Checking the level involves starting the car and while the engine is running with the selector lever in P (Park) remove the dipstick, wipe it clean, then push it back and remove it again. Now you can check the level. Fluid is usually added into the dipstick tube.
If you are losing ATF, check for leaks because the A/T usually does not consume ATF.
The transmission fluid goes in the same tube that holds the dip stick that you check the fluid levels with. You will need a funnel, and be sure to use only manufacturer recommended fluid in your vehicle. Be careful not to over fill.
Ensure the Galant is at operating temperature by driving it for about 10 minutes.
2: Open the hood of the Galant and locate the automatic transmission fluid reservoir and dipstick on the driver's side of the engine. The dipstick is labeled "ATF" and is red.
3: Pull the dipstick out of the reservoir, wipe it clean with a rag and reinsert it. Remove it once more and take the measurement of the current fluid level. Do not add any fluid if the fluid is already at the "Full" line; overfilling the reservoir can damage the transmission. If the measurement is between the "Full" and "Add" lines or below the "Add" lines, then continue to Step 4: Insert a funnel into the reservoir and pour a small amount of transmission fluid into the container. Check the fluid levels again by removing the funnel and inserting the dipstick into the reservoir. Pull the dipstick back out and read the fluid level on the dipstick. Continue this process until the fluid is at the "full" line.
If you would like to do a transmission filter kit I have found a site with full color pictorial and instructions. Pretty handy!!!
i presume that you have an automatic transmition, to check the oil you must ghet the car on service, is trichy job and the oil in the ghear box must be replaced at the exacly specified quantyty and type of oil. in that time you must replace alsothe filter of the gear box oil.
First, check your owner manual to see what type of transmission fluid your car requires. Raise your hood and locate your ATF dipstick. Make sure your fluid really is low. Do that by wiping your dipstick clean and reinserting it and pulling it back out. Check your marking level. If it is low it will show in the marking. If it is low insert a funnel and add no more than a pint of automatic transmission fluid. Reinsert your dipstick and check level again. To much/to little fluid can mess up your transmission. If not really sure take your vehicle in to be serviced
I dont believe that car has a trans dip stick there is a bolt underneath that you remove while engine is running if you see trans fluid flowing it is full not sure how to explain exactly where it is if you have not done it I dont recomend trying
