Grinding noises coming from the engine

Hi, I have a problem with my 1997 Ford Fiesta LX (I put ford escort in the product name because it was the closest thing I could find to my car and its age). Every time I start the engine, grinding noises come from it. This usually stops after a few seconds and I've not yet had any trouble starting it but the noises are concerning me. It usually happens first thing in the morning or when it is especially cold and is usually fine afterwards. Could someone please tell me what might be wrong and how much it would be likely to cost me to fix?

Thank you. That sounds about right. Not sure about the oil weight or oil level sorry. The car has always had a slight oil leak and it doesn't create any problems, just means that I have to check the oil level every couple of weeks.

I would suggest a heavier weight oil and more frequently checking the oil level

Sounds like your starter is hanging. (starter gear hanging up and not retracting creating a noise. New starter.

My 1997 ford escort lx was putting around then running fine, but then this morning it made alot of racket and then died, now i cant get it to start at all.

Your going to have to get it diagnosed. My first guess is the camshaft sensor granaded since you said it made strange noises before dieing.

Replace the fuel filter - but check the air filter isnt dirty and clogged up first... can only be fuel starvation or air starvation -

Brake problem

You could have some trash between the rotor and the dust shield, or worse, a bearing going bad. The rear bearings are not hard to replace, but the front ones are a chore.

Hi, my son has a 1997 Ford Fiesta SI, how do I get the near-side door trim off? I need to get at the door lock, someone tried to break in and left the external lock hanging off. I entered in the "PRODUCTS...

generally, the actuall panel should just pry outward. there's a large number of plastic things holding the pannel on. these will most likely have to be replaced. look for plastic plugs on the pannel. sometimes these hide screws behind them. you've also got to remove the plastic trim inside the door handle. if you have a actuall window crank handle, there will be a clip you'd have to pop out from under with a rag. be on the lookout for screws with funny-shaped heads, you may have to buy a special screwdriver for them. make sure you get some assitance from a DIYer or a car specialist with a day off to make sure you get everything put back together right. for future help reference (as the names here are oriented toward their American market Counterparts), look for the names "Festiva" or "aspire", which I believe is the closest American market equivelant to your son's Fiesta. Pumas could go there as well.

Ford fiesta 1.1 lx

have the battery checked, first sign of a weak battery is bad readings from the dials and guages...
other than that check all your fuses, The fiesta clocks do sometimes break though - so it may be a broken tachometer, about £40 from ford, I think - been a long time since I bought any ford parts...

No, what they are tlakign aobut is an exhaust brake, escorts do not have a such thing, if your hearing a grinding, it means you have a busted motor mount.
