Question about 1988 Chevrolet Cavalier Z24

1996 chevy z24 2.4 car has a hard time starting and staying runni

It takes about 3 times to get the car to start.After i start it i have to rev the gas pedal to keep it running.the car runs good after you put it in gear.but once you shut the car off,then start it again it does the same thing and has a hard time staying running in park.

    i replaced the gaskets on the injectors. the plugs were changed 7 months ago.it doesnt have plug wires just boots.in the past 2months she has ran the car out of gas 2times.could the fuel filter just be clogged?

When is the last time you changed the plugs and or wires. Possibly a bad coil. You can also check the fuel injectors to see if they are spraying correctly. Also check the fuel filter. It should be inline under the car just look for the lines when you crawl underneath. If none of that is the issue let me know

is the distributer in correctly those only go in way only and there is no adjusting timing on those motors assuming it is the vortec motor

Hard to start when 30 degress or less out.


Engine coolant sensor and Intake air sensor bad -----tech terms( ECT and IAT) The way to check these you need to hook up a scan tool to the cars computer and both of the readings for these sensor should read the same. If reading is off by 2 degrees that's ok not too off. And it should be in the morning before you start your car up. Thats the time you check it. hope this help

check airflo sensor or potentometer,throttle pos sensor; if revs are to low when turning the wheel the power steering pump will draw power from engine, causing your other problems

check for loose or cracked vacuum lines, and/or the rotor. It may not be making consistant contact.

Takes at least 3 tries to start


check under the hood for vacuum leaks this could cause both the heater and the running problem

your flap is controled by engine vacuum and if there is a hose off under the hood you may fix both problems
