Crankshaft Movement Hi, I recently took my Mazda MX5 Automatic Roadster to my local garage to have the Cam Belt changed. The mechanic noticed that there was a quarter to half an inch movement from front to back on the Crankshaft. I have had the car 2 years in April and have not experienced any problems driving it. My mechanic is not sure why there is this movement or if it is a problem. I need advice on whether the movement should be there and if not should I have it corrected. Has anyone else experienced a problem like this. I would welcome any advice.

Hope ya found out by now..however...ther was a problem in the past of a few that did that and they would eventually destruck the whole engine..miata put out a bulletin about it..it was on a few with certain vin numbers..they would replace the whole engine for no cost if yours was one of these, but i belive they were all supposed to be 1999 year model that this happened ...do a search on mazda camshaft problems and you can probably find the bulletin..it was the no 4 bearing or something if i remember right ....

Cx 7 mazda cel codes P0011 and P0016

Causes may include:
  • Timing chain stretched, or timing belt skipped a tooth due to wear
  • Misalignment of timing belt/chain
  • Tone ring on crankshaft slipped/broken
  • Tone ring on camshaft slipped/broken
  • Bad crank sensor
  • Bad cam sensor
  • Damaged wiring to crank/cam sensor
  • Timing belt/chain tensioner damaged
  1. First, visually inspect the cam and crank sensors and their harnesses for damage. If you notice broken/frayed wires, repair and recheck.
  2. If you have access to a scope, check the cam and crank patterns. If a pattern is missing, suspect a bad sensor or a slipping tone ring. Remove the cam gear and the crankshaft harmonic balancer and inspect the tone rings for proper alignment and make sure they're not loose or damaged or that they haven't sheared the key that aligns them. If they are properly installed, replace the sensor.
  3. If the signal appears normal, then check the timing chain/belt for proper alignment. If it's misaligned, check for a damaged tensioner that may have allowed the chain/belt to slip a tooth or several teeth. Also check that the belt/chain isn't stretched. Repair and recheck

1991 mazda mx5 eunos roadster radiator clogged with oil

Your radiator is leaking internally, leaking transmission fluid from the transmission fluid cooler into the radiator where the coolant is. You can't fix it, just get the radiator replaced and then flush the coolant.

The handbrake doesn't work on my recently bought 1997 Mazda MX5. The garage (non Mazda specialist) says it needs new calapers, brake pads and discs. Is that right?

Maybe, but probably not. If all those things were messed up, you'd also have trouble with the brakes under normal driving conditions.

You don't need a Mazda mechanic to work on your brakes, but you should find another garage and at least get a second opinion.

Miata brakes are very easy to work on -- not much harder than changing a tire. If you're up for it, get a Chilton's or Haynes manual from your local library or auto parts place and dive in. It's straightforward to inspect them yourself, and even replace your own pads with simple tools.

Mx5, possible misfire, lack of power in low revs

Hi this sounds very messy if somebody has made a mess of things the only way to check it out is to get it to a reputable garage and get it checked over ,did you have the head pressure tested as a common fault with these cars is internal cracking of the head which can often look like a head gasket failure the only solution then is a complete new head good luck with this

Mazda Premacy Timing Belt Change

Sorry for the severe delay.
I am personally going back to answer your unanswered question.
I do not know if you still need the answer, but I am going to answer it in case you still do.

The Front Oil Seal must be replaced when the Timing Belt/Chain is replaced. It is located behind the Crankshaft Pulley on the Crankshaft.
