Doesnt sound or feel like my cars shifting AUTO Transmission
I have a 90 Z32 nonturbo auto trany. When i put it in drive it revs and moves, but theres never any drop from rpms like it should when shifting. it just climbs higher and higher, ive done 90 at about 4500. It just feels like its stuck in gear or something. Are my gears gone??? And how much would a new tranny be? Id like a heads up before asking around shops. Thanks.

I would recommend that you have the fluid and filter changed, and put some Seafoam transmission repair in it, Seafoam is the best thing that you can use for a transmission, it will free a stcky valve body, and condition all of the moving parts, freeing them of grime that causes transmission damage and slipping, and hard shifting, you can get it at just about any auto parts store.
doesnt sound like it needs fluid, sounds like lock up for overdrive in the torque converter is bad, or possibly a shift solenoid. i would take it to an auto store and have them scan it, if it doesnt have any codes for it, it is most likely the torque converter
the first thing i would do would be to check the trany fluid level, make sure engine is warm and then check, some of these vws dont have dip sticks to check the trany oil level, theres a procedure to check,so if yours doesnt have a dip stick you should take it somewhere and have the level checked and also check for leaks,if the trany oil is full then i would have the trany checked, also that check engine light may have something to do with the shifting problem, have the computer scanned, the codes will help you diagnose the problem, auto zone will scan it for free, there are other parts places that will also scan and give you a read out of the codes stored in the computer, hope this helps.
its the gear linkage falling apart, or just about to fall off, get under the car and have a look at the gear box linkage keep the brakes hard on and get some body to go through the gears for you, if its just hanging off find a way to put it back on again there normaly held on by a spring clips if its poped off thats the problem
Is it starting out in 2nd. too? If so you may have a blown fuse or you tore some wires off. If the trany loses it's electrics it will go into the limp home mode. It will only have 2nd. and reverse. GM vehicles do the same thing.
