1996 F150 4X4 no turn signals or brake light

1996 F150 4X4 5.8L Auto Trans
I have no turn signals or brake light except brake light on the top of the cab. I checked all the fuse's and they are fine. The multi function switch has given me some problem in the past when it is cold (below 20) (getting turn signal to work, turning right) but never affected the brake lights. Also notice the 4 way flasher are not working either.

Hi

Kindly check the wiring of your car . Also carbon deposit on wires may lead to this , so clean all this connections with spirit. And then also check all the fuses again , as it might have happened one of their wire is broken so they are not active.

Thanks,

Rylee

I also had no turn signals or brake lights and found that with the key on, moving the hazard button to the left slightly fixed the problem. This occurred a couple of years back with a Taurus and we stumbled upon this simple fix. Make sure your blinker is on when you move the hazard button to the side. A toothpick will hold it to the left quite nicely.

The brake light would possibly be the flasher unit/relay... i would also check the relay for the brake lights and or make sure the bulbs are good as well

typo there... the flashers would be the flasher relay.... just curious... do the flashers just stay lite when you turn them on as this would indicate a burned out bulb as well.

Check the grounds on your wiring.
If you have a trailer harness, make sure there are no shorts, or crusty connections

No brake lights on rear of truck. Turn signals work and brake light on top with cargo light works but not on rear of truck

Brake light on top works tells me the switch at the pedal is ok. Turn signals working tells me that the turn signal filaments have power.

I would try changing the bulbs and if that doesn't work have an electrical shop trace the wires and check for power on the brake light circuit in the back.

1996 Chev Silverado K3500 dually, no brake lights

Check at the light socket in the rear, where your lights don't work. You need a test light or a voltage meter, and check to see that you have a groun there, power for your parking light, and power to the brake light. You should have power for the parking lights seeing that it works, and a ground. Just verify that your power for the brakes is getting to the bulb, or not. Just a good place to start.
And you are correct that if the third brake light works (top) your brake light switch is fine.

No brake lights , everything else works

Sounds like your brake light switch, located on the brake pedal, has gone out. Shouldn't cost to much at auto parts store. Thanks for using fixya.

I ended up taking the car to an auto mechanic which does electrical troubleshooting. the issue was a turn signal switch even though the turn signals work. Thought the resolution would help someone else out before paying $200 to fix.
