2004 Chev Venture- Speedometer has stopped working

My speedometer has stopped working. How can I tell if the problem is with the speedometer (instrument cluster) or with the speed sensor located on the transmission?

I took my venture 04 for an oil change.

From there the speedometer stopped working, got stocked in the midst of the panel.

So, is the problem the dealer who did the oil change, or it is just a coincident?

what would does it take to fix it?

How is your shifting, usually a bad speed sensor will set a check engine light and may cause shift errors, this trans has a internal and external speed sensor, the pcm uses the external for shift and for cruise and for also cruise control. A quick no scanner way to tell is if your cruise is working, if it is then your most likey looking at a bad cluster, take it from me i'm a master gm tech. if i don't have a scanner to do a guage sweep it's like having a broken arm while fixing these. but this should help you out.

I have a 2001 chevy venture I changed the vss sensor like 3 time it will work for a few days then I'll start acting up again and the speedometer will stop working how can I fix it?

Do you have any other problems with the vehicle ? Transmission shifting problems , fluctuating idle etc... The vehicle speed sensor does not control the speedometer directly , it is an input to the PCM/ECM - engine computer .
The IPC displays vehicle speed as determined by the PCM. The IPC receives a class 2 message from the PCM. The Vehicle Speed Sensor (VSS) discrete signal is pulled up to ignition voltage in the PCM. The IPC uses the VSS data received from the PCM and a software program to determine the proper vehicle speed to display.
To tell what is happening a factory scan tool needs to be hooked up to check serial data communications between the PCM an instrument cluster . Also could be a bad stepper motor for speedometer , GM had faulty ones back in that year.

My light on my speedometer doesn't work. I have a 2004 chevy venture, which fuse controls that or could it be a bulb that's out

If all the rest of the lights in the dash are working, then it is the bulb. Just pull out the dash and replace bulb

If everything else works ok, the vehicle drives normally, and all the other gauges are working then you may have a bad speedometer servo motor. This servo is what actually moves the speedometer needle to match the speed you are driving at. The cluster would need to come out and be repaired to fix this problem if this is the case.

Speedometer stopped working

Commonly on 03-06 Ventures the gauges will stop working due to failing gauge stepper motors. For more information on how to fix your venture instrument cluster check out this page - Venture speedometer fix

My speedometer on my 2004 chev tahoe reads 120 mph. Sometimes it is less but is never the correct speed I am going. What do I need? A cable or fuse??

First call your dealer. There is a free instrument cluster replacement recall, which may apply for your problem.
