Question about 1987 Buick Skyhawk 2 Door Sport

1 Answer

Smoking skyhawk Dear sir The other day I started my buick syhawk like any other day.I went about 1 km and noticed it wasn"t quite running quite properly. It was like it was missing.I went along thinking maybe it was the efi or maybe a bit of water in the tank .As i went about another km I looked in the rear mirror and noticed abit of white smoke thinking it was just the cool air that day.Anyway as I went abit farther the white cloud of smoke trailing the car got bigger and bigger. Finally I had too pull over as I could not even see the cars behind it. When I stopped alot of smoke and some slight smell was present. When I opened the hood I checked all water hoses ect.but could not physically see any thing wrong.Checked water level also and the oil dipstick.I the tried to start and it did barely like it may be seizing up or something.I then had too shut it down for it was running terrible and more smoke. I would not care too much but it is an old car(1987)but its in super shape. So my question is where do I start. Can you give me any suggestions .I was told maybe a head gasket but no water is lost so I can see and no water in the oil. Thks Greg

    Dear sir

I am not sure as it will not start now.All i can remember it was

sort of a burnt smell. This could be just the anti freeze smell.

If the smell of the white smoke is sweet, it is coolant and most likely a head gasket failure.

I just rolled my 98 buick skylark i want to know how to repair it and how much it would cost

with out knowing exactly how long it was running for upside down I would suggest that the engine is damaged It may have a hydraulic lock in a cylinder ( full of water)
If the car was upside down, I imagine considerable body and panel damage
Best advice is to save your money , junk it and get another mobile car.

Hello, I own a 1998 Altima (GXE). 160 000 km. For the last two days, the motor temperature guage needle indicates low motor temperature (1/4 between the C and the H). Yesterday I was in heavy traffic for...

First thing is the that the coolant temperature sensor is quite different to the temperature sender that is monitored on your dash board. Assuming everything is working fine the thermostat may be stuck open. This would cause coolant to be circulated without restriction and so remaining cooler than usual even when the engine is at running temperature.
