Re: 2000 Lincoln LS Overheating
Sound like a faulty engine coolant sensor. if the computer gets a signal that the engine is overheating it goes into protection mode and shuts the engine off to prevent damage. have it scanned for fault codes. mike

Could be several things - you will need to figure out if the cooling system is working or if the engine is producing extra heat such as with a restricted exhaust. Check the radiator fan and the water pump.
Coolant blowing out of the cap is due to a bad cap but overheating will also cause this to happen, you will need to find out why its overheating. First is to make sure the cooling system is full, then run the engine as you keep an eye on the temp gauge inside the car. If the engine starts to run hot take a look at the radiator fan and see if its turning, if it is then i would start with a thermostant but if the fans are not coming on then i would take a look at the fans and also have the coolant temp sensor checked,a scan tool would be very helpful here, you would be able to test alot more things, but this is where i would start.
