Use the fitting as a sample, have someone at a garage, or parts place, flare a piece of tubing to it as long as you need to attach rubber line, or did you want to put back like original?

My 2004 Dodge Neon is overheating

you might have air in the cooling system, or water pump might not be functioning right, I would try burping the system first too see. with the car off and cooled down pull the radiator cap off and start the car, let it run for about 30 minutes should force all air out of the system, keep a eye on the coolant level while doing this.

I'm working on a 2002 Dodge Neon. The transmission cooler line has become disconnected from the radiator but looks to be fine including the adapter. I can push the line back into the hole in the...

I had the same problem with my 2002 Neon and the transmission fluid was mixing with the coolant. You cant fix it yourself...Either pull the radiator and take it to a rad shop or replace the rad as I did. If the coolant gets into the transmission you will also need a transmission flush. The fitting you are talking about has come loose from the transmission cooler tank inside the rad.Its a common problem with neons I got a new rad from NAPA and changed it myself, and it was a lot of work. Good luck. The manual also says to replace the flexible tranny lines.

What makes a 2004 dodge neon run hot

Numerous things make a car run hot. Water Pump, overflow cap, belt not tight to turn water pump enough to keep it cool, radiator has a small hole or needs to be flushed to clean. Are you losing coolant? If so can you see what area it may be coming from? It more less something that has to be narrowed down without seeing it in person.

Would the engine over heating on my 2002 dodge neon cause my transmition to slip?

No, this is not related. You just happen to lucky enough to have two problems at the same time. If the engine got to a point where is was glowing hot, it could transfer the heat to the cooling lines causing air bubbles in the fluid and henceforth a slipping tranny. However, your engine would seize solid forever given those circumstances.

Radiator vs. transmission

same issue. tranny fluid is cooled via intercooler that runs along bottom of radiator. this developed a crack and because tranny fluid is under more pressure, started dumping tranny fluid into radiator. A couple guys recommended replacing rad, then servicing tranny just in case any coolant leaked backwards.
