Black rubber stripping

Can someone tell me how to replace the black rubber stripping on my passenger front door. About 8-12 inches has come off, and the garage wants 85.00 dollars. Is there a cheaper way for me to do this?? Can I buy this Black rubber stripping at an AUTOZONE??

You may need to go to the dealer or a salvage yard to get the strip. It is bolted on with 3 or 4, 10 mm nuts inside the door panel and at the front and rear of the door panel. It should take you about an hour to do the repair yourself. Mike

The windows and driver door lock buttons stop working. but i can lock the door for passenger and backdoors from the passenger door ,but the windows won't go down

Dec, 13/09 Surprisingly, many others have reported the same problem in internet Q & A sites. It happened to me yesterday and, just as many others discovered too, the black wire inside the black cover over the harness between the door panel and the body near the door hinge was completely severed. I removed the cover from the door end and tried to push it back and out of the way to expose both ends of the black wire. It is awkward and would be difficult to work with the end of the black wire coming towards the door. So, I made a 1/2 inch **** in the covering near its end closest to the Jeep body and, using needle nose pliers, fished the black wire up and through the ****. I could then strip 1/2 inch of plastic covering the end of the wire and then twist the stripped end of a 3 inch length of flexible wire (similar to that from a lamp cord) around that black wire and solder the joined wires using a soldering iron, solder and flux. I then wrapped the soldered joint with electrical tape, pushed it back through the **** in the cover and pulled it through the cover to extend conveniently closer to the end of the broken wire coming from the door panel. I stripped the end of that black wire, similarly soldered it to the splicing wire, wrapped that joint with electrical tape and easily replaced the end of the cover over the white plastic cap on the door panel.
It was great to hear the door lock and unlock using my remote opener, to find the windows again opened, interior lights dimmed when the driver's door closed. Don't let service try to sell you new locks, switches etc without first checking for a broken wire in the harness. This do-it-myself project took less than an hour with material already on my workbench. Others have reported dealers have charged as much as $400 for time to check everything else before finding the broken wire. DH Cambridge, ON Canada

pop the hood and take out the plastic shroud on the passenger side at the firewall. there is a rubber weather stripping that will direct the rain water off the wind shield other wise the rain will fall directly onto the top of the fan motor then run down onto the carpet. i noticed mine when the fan motor iced up and was about an inch thick of ice. all i did was RTV on the weather stripping to redirect the water good luck.

It's the rubber piece that runs all the way around the door. Around a inch thinck, squishy, and well, black. It's hard to miss.

Replacing Passenger Side Door Moulding

First are you talking about the weather stripping that goes around were the door close into? If this is it, just pull off the old one clean the area good, brake clean works very well. then put the new one in place I recommend some contact cerment here and there to keep it in place so its not flopping all over you. If this is not the black strip please let me know which piece it is.

Sounds familiar - I pulled the rubber boot back and found the black wire was broken. I stripped the wires and put on a couple bullet connectors (terminators) and all is good. Just wish I would have seen this post before I took the door panel off... Oh well...
