No drive 300tdi 1996. recon engine

Been running fine then made noise like jumping out of gear, pushed in clutch to pull over and lost all drive, tried both boxes high and low and still no drive only sound of gears not catching, seemed to come from front diff. any advice would be welcome, had been driving in four wheel drive some fifteen minutes earlier with no prob and only for a matter of 3 mins to cross some sand. thanks a million.

cheers mate, think it might be the gear box as thats where noise is coming from, although the normal box moves through gears ok, the four wheel drive stick is still as a board and dont feel right at all. any more advice would be more than welcome as im stuck in the west of ireland with my missus and two year old son, if worst comes to worst will leave it here and get them uk then come back and fix it.

Maybe the linkage in the transfer case is busted that could be where the noise is coming from . hope this helps

My 1989 Honda CRX the idle jumps when I push on the clutch what causes this

Does your transmission and clutch work perfectly fine, no noise or any problem? I can't imagine why the idle would jump from dis-engaging the clutch from the flywheel. When you do that, the transmission input shaft is no longer turning with the flywheel- it becomes stationary. If the input shaft had worn gears or a worn bearing, I suppose it could put a little load on the engine, make it work harder to maintain rpm's. So when you push the clutch in, that load from turning a worn bearing or gear disappears and your idle increases. How's that for a crazy solution?

Don't know much about crx, but I assume the computer controls idle? If it does, the ecu would have no compensation in idle speed for pushing the clutch pedal down.

PLEASE HELP Metal grinding while driving

Sounds like the thrust bearing is worn to the bleep. Though I suspect it's not Synchromeshing. Some part of the Clutch mechanism failing critically.
Did it run out of Oil? BUT then maybe damage has been done to both the internal of the Gearbox as well as the clutch, so yeah STOP driving it before more damage that can set you back a fortune

Not moving in any gear

Have you checked the High-Low ratio lever.  Half-way between High and Low is a Neutral, so no drive to any axle even if a gear in the main box is selected.
Try locking the differential.  If this gives you drive, then it might be a final drive (half-shaft) failure.

Problem with discovert 300tdi automatic

If you start it, and drop it into 1 does it move? If so, sounds like the sprag clutch (iirc) has gone - this is the clutch that allows you to freewheel at lights and what not. Common problem on the Auto gearboxes. Will need a rebuild I'm afraid.

Problems with gear box

If the clutch feels ok and isn't biting right at the bottom or right at the top then it sounds like its time for a recon or 2nd hand gearbox to be fitted.

I recently fitted a 2nd gearbox to a seat ibiza GTi which actually has the 2.0 Golf engine fitted to it and it wasn't too bad at all, but it is adviseable to fit a clutch kit whilst the box is off.

Very best regards
