Don,t use the defrost then.LOL: The fuel filter is mounted on the frame at the back of the vehicle, near the gas tank. Was it ever tune up? If not that can be a lot to do with the problems your having, All so a fuel injector could be (Defective)

Had the same issue with my 99 s-10. Ended up being the throttle position sensor.

SOURCE: engine looses power going up hill, no check engine light at this time.

How old is the Catalytic Converter, sometimes they will get clogged up and affect performance.
Good luck

SOURCE: truck starts but bogs down

Sounds like a vacuum leak, check all the lines for cracks or one of them might not be seated all the way.

The brakes maybe jamb on. If driving foe approx 15 mins and then check each of the wheels to see if the brakes are very hot. This will indicate which brake is not releasing properly.
You then need to take your car to a brake specialist for repairs.

It sounds like a vac problem with the engine or the brake booster. The brakes should be vac assist and that vacuum comes from the engine.
If it were something with the ABS system you should have a warning light on the dash. Nothing in the transmission would affect the brakes.

The dealer or a repair shop just needs to keep it & get
more involved

Dealers don't keep anything that they can't write a repair
order & collect money on,they have enough business
without your issues.

The vehicle has to have a scan tool on it & driven while recording
data & then play it back after the symptom returns

There are many things that can be checked also

You can't send $1,500.00 for 3 straight days of diagnostic
work,so there you are,as are millions of others, waiting to get
rear ended again. That is todays technology

you need a shop to check it over, before you replace more parts. The fuel filter may need to be replaced, but it wont fix your problem, its under the hood, near the LF wheel.

I wouldn't install a used brake booster,but you could

You don't need instructions & a list of tools

If you & your friend together need that, you shouldn't
be doing that job

You will find 4 nuts in plain site, on the firewall holding it on.
You know enough to remove the brake tubing on the master
& can unbolt it ,to swap to different booster. Not sure
you can leave the brake lines in place until you try removing
the booster.

Before you do all that ,remove & check out the vacuum
check valve on the booster with the hose going to it

They are a somewhat common replaced item. You may
only get a couple in your life time, but they do fail somewhere
every day.

I'd look for issues when it is not running-does it get spark? When it completely dies, and you try to start it, look at the tachometer, see if it moves-if it does, you have spark. Then you know it is a fuel problem, either the fuel pump is going/gone (can be checked when not running by checking fuel pressure at the rail when cranking)-or it might be as simple as the fuel filter (that'd be nice)-I personally think the IAC (idle air controller) had nothing to do with your problem and your mechanic just threw that part at it-I'd be more inclined to think it was a Mass Air Pressure sensor (MAP) if I was going to suspect something that might cause your problem, an IAC would not do that-is the MAP plugged in?

No matter what, the fuel pressure is easy to check, the filter easy to replace-and the MAP would set a Check Engine Light.
