Question about 2005 Buick Century

1 Answer

Car will not start

My 2005 Buick Lesabre will not start. The battery is just a few months old. I started it this morning, it ran a little while and then just shut off. I checked the battery and it is showing no voltage. I tried to jump it off but when I turned the key it would just made a clicking sound. I also smelled a slight burning smell from under hood at fuse panel. Please advise.

SOURCE: Car wont start, no clicks no sound

make sure you have power getting to your starter when you crank. check the small nut on the starter. should have 12 v or very close to it. this will tell you if your getting power to the starter or if somethign before the starter and something maybe with your anti theft system or not. its hard to say online cause of that anti theft. doest the light flash at all? the anti theft light?

if your getting power to the starter when you crank make sure your getting good power to the starter by turning on the head lights and see if they dim. a good starter will cause the headlites to dim when attempting to start. if nothing dims check connections. or assume bad starter motor. make sure your also getting power to the main starter stud as well.

good luck

SOURCE: replaced ignition switch in 1994 buick lesabre,

Can you please detail it...

  • Your car probably have an immobiliser kit with the security system
  • This cuts off the engine during a start under the hood
  • This kills the power from the ignition point
  • The keys may be code protected
  • Check whether your security system is still active even if the doors are open!!
  • Try to click the the unlock\ lock button simultaneously, when the doors are open
  • Its better to remove the fuse of the security system and cut it off

The car sat for a few months and the battery died so I got a new battery and the security system wont let me start it. The little red light is constantly flashing. n 98 buick leSabre

This is pretty common on GM vehicles. The problem is that its hard to diagnose which part of the system is failing. Mechanics will charge heavily and trouble shooting yourself can be expensive buying things you dont need. DON'T even think about going to the dealer. I've been dealing in these systems for years and the best, most cost effective way to fix this is to just bypass the whole system. Here is a link for info and DO IT YOURSELF solutions.

Buick 2000 lesabre -- car wouldn't start yesterday -- got a jump start on battery ($45) and let it charge. It started up last night before bedtime but wouldn't start again this morning. I could really use...

Assuming it is not a new battery it could be the battery. It may hold a charge for a short period of time. Most auto parts stores will check the batteries ability to hold a charge for free. If it can't hold a charge then it needs to be replaced. Assuming it was properly charged this sounds like your situation. If the battery is under the seat some autoparts stores will not do a free replacement. Then you have to find a place such as sears that will or do it yourself.

Won't start, no click, leave for a while turn key it starts.

See if pulling up on the shifter lever makes it start.  You may have a bad switch.  Or try cleaning the battery terminals and retightening the battery terminals solves the problem.
