I had the same problem with my 2002 Chevy Blazer. The problem with mine is it was out of antifreeze due to a leak in my radiator.

Hey Donna,
First, remove the thermostat and flush the coolant system..install a new thermostat and refill with antifreeze.. this should cure your problem... do this and reply...........
the thermostat should be located where the top radiator hose meets the engine block......

My car was over heating I went and change the thermostat it was shot. went back to normal.

I think that your engine may have seized up. If the new thermostat was installed in the correct direction, I believe that the radiator was plugged up, which caused the engine to over heat. But it could also be that the impellers in the water pump have eroded away. I have never heard of a sensor that shuts off the engine during an over heat event. Excessive heat may have damaged the new thermostat.

Heater not heating

You may have a clogged heater core or defective thermostat, Have a friend remove thermostat reinstall new gasket around houseing and see if you get heat. If you do get heat then it was just a defective thermostat..

New water pump and thermostat also flushed radiator and backflushed the heater core. Only heats up to 170 heat goes away once you slow down. When running down the road it has some heat but not near hot...

Sounds like your new thermostat is not closing properly. Been hearing ALOT of problems w/new thermostats - sounds like alot of chinese made are flooding the market. It sounds like you did everything right..

My 2005 Grand Prix has no heat and my gas mileage is awful. would changing thermostat fix problem. also at night not sure if this has anything to do with problem only my blue temperature arrows light...

A FAULTY THERMOSTAT STUCK OPEN WILL EFFECT GAS MILEAGE AND CAUSE POOR OR NO HEAT CONDITIONS.THERMOSTAT NOT A HARD JOB TO FIX.ALL YOU NEED TO DO IS DRAIN OUT SOME OF THE COOLANT IN A DRAIN PAN.DRAIN COOLANT LEVEL BELOW THERMOSTAT.IF YOU HAVE 3.8L ENGINE THERMOSTAT HOUSING ON TOP INTAKE MANIFOLD.IF YOU HAVE 5.3L ENGINE FOLLOW TOP RADIATOR HOSE IT WILL LEAD YOU TO THERMOSTAT HOUSING.REMOVE HOUSING THERMOSTAT INSIDE THE HOUSING.IF YOU HAVE WATER INLET ANDTHERMOSTAT IN ONE COMPLETE UNIT OR HOUSING YOU HAVE TO REPLACE THE ENTIRE WATER INLET HOUSING WITH NEW THERMOSTAT.THIS TYPE UNIT WILL HAVE LONG PIPE WITH BYPASS PIPE WITH WATER INLET WITH THERMOSTAT. ONCE YOU REPLACE THERMOSTAT.IF YOUR RED ARROWS OFF AND HEAT STILL DONT WORK THE DEALERSHIP WILL HAVE TO CHECK IT OUT.WITH NEW THERMOSTAT AND PRESSURE CAP.MAKE SURE GET COOLANT LEVEL CORRECT.SEE HOW HEAT WORKS.IF NOT YOU HAVE A ELECTRICAL PROBLEM AT AC AND HEATER CONTROL SWITCH.

I have a service engine soon light on. I was told it was either the temp sensor or thermostat. replaced the thermostat and now the heat wont turn on.

Meaning your not getting any heat? I would suspect a higher temp thermostat was put in, and now its taking longer to get heat... Its also possible the thermostat is faulty... Either way, I would try a new thermostat again... The check engine light wont come on from a thermostat so change the CTS...
