Brake Light Problems

Ok Its a strange problem so I will try to type it clearly
When My headlights are off and I step on the brake the only light that comes on is the LED on the back window, NO brake lights at all.

When I have my lights on, The brake lights dimmly light up as normal and when the brake is applyed they get brighter as normal

Where did my brake lights go when the lights are off I have checked the bulbs themselfs and they are fine, I have checked all fuses inside and under the hood regarding bake lights and all fuses are fine.

To me if it was a harness then i would be having problems with the brake lights all the time same with a fuse or a bulb. Electrically it just doesnt make sense. Can you help me???

Saab one headlight won't turn off when I turn if the ignition the light remains on. Only the driver side head light

Some cars leave a light on if you switch off with the indicator/turn light left on. Put the stalk to the "OFF" position and see if it goes out.

What to look for? why is this electrical system malfuntioning?

Well that kind of sounds like a bad connection, but it was difficult understanding with no good punctuation... Have you checked the battery terminals? If not, do so, and have your alternator checked too. I've seen some really goofy stuff happen when some vehicles don't get enough power.

My reverse lights and brake lights dont work on my 97 c1500. the signal work and when i turn on my headlights the tail lights come on but still no brake or reverse lights

It sounds like you have two separate switch problems, brake light switch located at the top of the brake pedal arm, loose or broke, and the back-up light switch located on transmission or linkage depending on transmission type. When asking questions always give as much info as possible.

When headlight are on and hit the beake pedal only the 3rd brake light comes on the rest are stuck . When i release brake pedal it seems like i am driving with my brake light on . but my headlight off...

It may sound silly, but check your brake light bulbs to see if they have been installed incorrectly. Brake light bulbs have two filaments, one for tail light, and a brighter one for brake lights. On some cars if the bulb is installed wrong, the brighter filament will stay on for tail lights. The only other thing I can think of is the wrong bulbs have been installed.

No lower brake lights, working in middle of rear window, turn signals work, tail lights work, back-up lights work

Most problems of this type have been traced to the headlight dimmer switch. Have the exact same problem with mine. When I hold the brake and wiggle the signal light switch the brake lights work.

Brake light just stopped working, they turn on when i turn on my headlight , just wont light up when i brake.

You need to replace the Brake Light Switch which is located on the upper brake pedal arm inside your car. You can replace it yourself, just unplug it from the wiring harness, remove and replace.

Left side of brake light wont turn on, when headlights are on.

they have many problems with the sockets and bulbs.. take bulb out look at bottom of bulb see if the two terminals are melted together.. also check good for ground to socket.... bad grounds and sockets get to hot i wouls recheck good... also if you see a little black module on light housing that will be the lamp out module... to let you know you have a lightg out.. if you have that option.... try replacing

Head lights come when you hit the brakes no brake lights

Wow, that's a strange one!
Try removing the brake light bulbs, and then see if the headlights still come on with the brake pedal. If the headlights still come on, there is a short to voltage somewhere in your wiring ( in other words, somehow the brake light circuit is feeding the headlights ). If the headlights stop coming on with stop light bulbs removed, you have a bad ground in the stop light circuit. Clean the contacts inside the light bulb sockets if there is any dirt or corrosion. Hope this helps.

Brake lights dont work, Turn Signals all goofy

First thing i would do is chg. the break light switch, and make sure to chk. all grounds around tailights, sometimes if there is a ground problem it will travel back thru the hot wire to get a ground, witch in turn makes everything go wackey.

Only headlights work, 91 4dr EX

ok supaxang, could this solution be as simple as replace the 2 rear bulbs? The brake light and tail light (parking light) are the same bulb, 2 filaments, one for brakes, one for tail lights. If the the tail light filament burns out, the brake light will continue to work ok. It is quite possible that both tail lights burned out, and the brake light filaments are good and still working. Replace w/ bulb #2057. Let me know if this fixes it, if not, I'll keep working on it.
