Open Question

2009 f150 wont start when fuel is low and parked on decline hill

Truck was low on fuel and parked on a decline hill. new battery, cranked perfect, but would not start. towed to dealer sat over night and started perfect the next day when sitting on level ground. this has happened 2 times. first time ford replaced the fuel pump. no error codes and started the first time at dealer also.

I'm assuming that your engine is fuel injected. I had this same problem with a 93 s-10. The problem was a drop in oil pressure after the engine reached operating temp. The computer, sensing a drop in oil pressure would not let the injectors fire when I tried to restaart the engine. I used a jumper wire to bypass the oil presssure sending unit and never had the problem again. If the jumper wire works, then you either have a bad oil pressure sending unit, or you have a problem with low oil pressure. Hope this works for you.

have diagnostic codes checked to see if you have a cam or crank sensor fault. make sure fuel pressure is at the required pressure, just testing to see if you have fuel at the valve is not enough. replace all spark plug wires. if you replaced two then all are just as old and even when they "look good" does not qualify as "they are good". Replace coil pack. start up drive away happy

I have 2005 I changed the starter and battery good but it still won't start


First does it crank, if it does then check to see if the fuel injectors are getting fuel.....could be a fuel pump...

second....if there is nothing when you turn the key and the battery is good and the starter was replaced...it could be a bad ground.....thats the ground coming off your battery and goes to your chassis of the car.........let me know how you make out.

does it crank fast, at 250 spec RPM?
no year, no joy, all cars have a year,
and and engine option (displacement size???)
my wild guess, is it wont crank or cranks dead slow.
right?
and the battery is DISCHARGED. right,
use jumper start cables. start now?
that be first.

wont crank
cranks perfectly but wont start ?(check for spark, x number of cyl)
spark good, try test fuel
test fuel works for 3seconds and stalls,. then fueling problem , ask.

Short answer, your batter is bad. or is disCHARGED:
Long.:

wont crank?
no engine, cranks ,unless the starting system works.
unless pushed fast, like my car or i park on a hill and coast jump my car.(M/T tranny rule)

NO crank, is the true failure here:
slow Cranks are , bad battery , or a discharged battery , due to bad charging system or parked for 3 months or longer.

so ill assume its NO CRANK.
I turn the key TO START and the starter fails to CRANK.
the starter motor is dead. (key clue 1)
so i attach a set of jumper cables to my Caddy, running and this car
now cranks and RUNS (you left that out. above, huh? runs)

turnsover means nothing, because the engine starter turns over
and the engine can turn over and the engine can run,
once running the EFI system SUSTAINS runninng.
so there are 4 states there. (4 phases )

No cranks #1 reason to be slow , are a bad battery
so I charge that battery, and see how if it cranks , now?
it dont crank means a bad battery
it does work( crank) see how long it works.../?
if it dies again, or better, check the cars Alternator for by measuring
accross the battery terminals running , with any volt meter.
13.3 to 15vdc is a good alternator running the engine.
if NOT, the charge system is bad. (system)

On some cars the IMMO can block Cranking or for sure blocks
fueling after 2 seconds. So. watch the IMMO light on the dash.
Immo is the Immoblizer. option.

Car stalled out and died. Cranks, but wont start all of the sudden.


On an incline that you stopped on, dont under estimate that if your low on fuel it may not be picked up by the fuel pump, or your fuel pump may have went out. If you run low on fuel often or up & down hill on low fuel will cause your fuel pump to burn out premature, they even say not to run less than a qrtr tank to be safe, but todays cost in fuel usually people wait till the last minute (gallon) which puts a strain on the fuel pump as the gas cools the motor and incline and decline in roads will mimic a low tank. What doesnt make sence is you sprayed starting fluid which should have fired for a few seconds, which brings you to spark issues, check you coil pack plugs and wires, most likely coil pack over plug and wires should still fire even if a plug or wire goes bad, but the coil pack controls the power going to the wire then plugs.

If u hear the engine cranking in the AM, the batt & alt sound good. If you don't get any engine cranking in the am you may have an electrical short draining the battery. Before u convict the starter u must make sure the battery has full power in the AM. (12V) & 12 V to the starter

My hummer ran out of gas and after filling it it wonts start it cranks but it doesnt start


ther is a inersua switch some were on that hummer plus check with the dealer that H2 has som kind of fuel sending unit problem if you park it on a steep hill and with low fuel it will triger it and it will crank but wont start but will have gas the delear reset my blank..... button I for gt wht but chek first or you may have burened out the fuel pump been there too.....the pump is in the gas tank I think this is your problem put car in park break on then have some one turn the key on the fuel pum shuld hum for about 3 seconds then shut off....part cost about 190.00 dont get tricked into paying 700.00 for a factory pump

REPLACE FUEL FILTER FIRST CRANK ENGINE.WHEN IT DIES AGAIN GET A FUEL PRESSURE READING WITH ENGINE OFF.IF FUEL PRESSURE REAL LOW OR ZERO FUEL RELAY FAULTY OR FUEL PUMP RELAY.FAULTY.

1998 chevy c15 5.7 SFI SYSTEM


My truck did this after I replaced the fuel pump. Turned out to Fuel Pressure Regulator. It would crank and crank but never start. It's located underneath the black plastic manifold on the side of the injectors.
