Question about 2000 Toyota Corolla

1 Answer

Rumbling sound I recently bought a 2000 Toyota Corolla VE with 77,000 miles. The first time I sat in the back seat I noticed a rather loud rumbling sound coming from underneath the car that increased in intensity as the speed of the car increased. The sound is not nearly as noticeable when driving or sitting in the front seat. I was told by a former Ford Tempo owner that this sound is inherent with small cars due to lack of insulation. Is this rumbling caused by cheap tires that came with the car or is it just an inherent problem?

It sounds to me like you have a bearing going out in one of the rear wheels. Get it fixed soon. It's pretty pricey but it will cause a lot more problems if left unchecked.

The vibrating sound is probably your heat shield on your exhaust,as you rev the engine the vibration is amplified and may be tripping your knock sensor, try removing the heat shield and see what happens.

Have loud noise from engine, gets louder w/more rpms.it is an automatic,60k miles.no exhaust or muffler problem.

Serpentine belt tightener pulley bearing was bad, made a loud noise. I replaced the pulley (jobber part) and the noise level was reduced enough to notice the waterpump was also making a noise ... more revs = louder noise. I am now replacing the water pump. (approx 60k Miles too).

My 2000 1.6 litre Corolla has a loud knocking from top of engine. Sounds like a valve dropped or seized and maybe hitting piston. The engine has been running well but suffering high oil consumption.

STOP RUNNING THE MOTOR IMMEDIATELY!!! If it has dropped a valve all you are doing is making the damage worse. Take the valve cover off and make sure all of the valve stems are there. If not replace or rebuild the motor.

2002 corolla (now 91000 miles) makes rattling sound

Thats good that you are getting a second opinion. A Toyota dealer will be able to check it and see what the noise may be. See what they come up with. I dont think a worn timing chain or guides would cause a low oil pressure problem. But, if it does indeed have low oil pressure, that is a serious problem.

Engine knock

The idle issue is normal. The idle is controlled by the ECU. There are no adjustments for the idle. Regarding the knocking noise, that could be several things, and I am hesitant to comment without hearing it. Take it to a Toyota Dealer & have a tech listen to it. We are very good at identifying noises on the service drive.
