The only way I can think of for water to get in a standard transmission is if the rubber boot on top of the transmission has deteriorated and is allowing the water picked-up from the road and swirled around the undercarrage by turbulence to seep into the transmission. If you ever pulled one of this transmission then you know a lot of sand gets deposited on top of them by all the water that swirls around them.

Drain and refill with the proper fluid, and keep truck out of deep water. There is no trans. cooler on these manual trans. vehicles, so there is no chance for contamination.

I don't understand what you mean by starting in drive instead of first. It should not start in any gear other than park and neutral.
as for the lights , you may have blown a fues or have a dead short from the trailer pigtail you used for pulling the boat.

My ram 1500 2w drive has trouble getting out of first gear. After i hit a certain rpm and let go of the gas pedal it will shift...But after get past that and doing 35 or higher and try to push quickly on...

Is there any check engine light on ? It sounds like your transmission is slipping ! Pre 2004 dodge trucks mainly had the the 46re trans wich requires service every 30k wich includes adjustimg the primary and secondary bands ! With my experience this never gets done and leads to transmission problems ! At this point the damage is done so you can try some things - first flush the transmission and drop the pan and have the bands adjusted and put in a new filter , refill with atf plus 4 fluid only and substitute 1 qaurt of fluid with lucas trans treatment and add greased lighting additive and drive for several days ! I did this on a dodge truck i bought that was having problems and it fixed the majority of the problems a computer update fixed the remainder of the problems and she has been running perfect since !

i would change the thermostat first this is commonly the cause for overheating while i had it out i would check the condition of the coolant if it looks gunky or brownish in color i would do an engine flush and replace the water pump. i hope this helps
