No Manual I purchased a 2004 CX 70 with a manual. What does the "W" button behind the shifter mean?

Diddo... Nothing in my manual has a refferance to this button either. On a snow covered road I bushed it to see if it activated the AWD system and believe it did but pressing it again did not turn the "slippery road" light on the dash off OR the LED in the button itself. The LED in the button and the dash light both reset once I shut the car off and restarted.

The "w" is for winter mode, mostly for icy and snow conditions. It stops the car from accelerating to hard. As a experiment, activate winter mode a put your foot flat to the floor from a stand still position. You'll soon know what it does.

1996 Jeep Grand Cherokee shifter stuck in park

Could be the brake light switch or the solenoid that locks the shifter in park. Sometimes there is a button or tab near the shifter to unlock it in an emergency. Sometimes you can take it out of park if you turn the key but not to the on position.
Your owners manual should have these procedures, and you can do an internet search for the process to take the console out if needed.

My 2003 aviator gear is locked in park and will not move

check to see if your brake lights work. No? check your brake light fuse. OK? change your brake light switch. Your brake light switch powers the brake / shifter interlock. There is usually a way to bypass the interlock- check your owners manual for bypass button location ( its usually next to the shifter)

My mercerdes c180 will not go into gear

there are a couple of possibilities that could keep the from going into gear. if by that you mean will not come out of park. first check and see if you can hear a clicking type sound from the shifter area everytime you depress the pedal. if you don't hear a click sound then you either have a bad stop lamp switch or a release solenoid which is part of the shifter assembly. there is a manual release switch under the coin holder located behind the shifter. use a small screwdriver to pop it out and then insert a pen or pencil to depress release tab. detailed instructions may be in your owners manual.

2005 XC90 shifter is locked - can only shift between drive an neutral, can't put into park when i come to a complete stop. the key is also locked in the ignition

check the button that you push in on your shifter. will the shift button not go all the way back into the shifter like normal. can you pull it out toward the dash? be easy when doing so to keep from breaking it. something has broken inside the shifter and allows the button to come out too far. try sticking ur finger in the shifter behind the button and realign the button. the button should go all the way into the shifter when it is aligned. it's only a temporary fix but will get you home.

The dash in my envoy just started displaying two symbols: one is a car with squiggly lines behind it and a wrench besides it and the other is basically the same car w lines but there is a triangle around...

Do you have a button there for putting the car in winter drive? all wheel drive? something to do with the rear end? The squiggly lines means traction, or lack of, and the wrench means fix it. And the triangle means it is on. So there must be a switch someplace next to the shifter that turns something on, having to do with the rear end. Check it out.

Ford truck shifter locked in park

For the column shifter it is on the left hand side of the steering wheel column behind the knee panel.
For the console shifter it is under the cup holder, think it is still on the left side.

For either of them, the shift interlock solenoid has a white button on it, that you can press and it will release the gear shift lever.

This is for the 2004 New Body style truck, if you have a 2004 Heritage or Lightning, it is slightly different.
