Question about 2008 Nissan Rogue
When I start my Rogue, there is a LOUD noise that lasts for about 5 seconds. It sounds like it is coming from the radio/ac control area. I only hear it when I first start my car, but it's loud and concerning. I don't know how to describe it, but it kind of sounds like a the component that starts my ac or radio is turning on/ warming up/whining almost. It's the loudest when I first start my car after sitting for a while (overnight). If I drive somewhere and turn off my car for a few minutes (like run into the bank) - when I start it up again, it isn't as loud. I know these aren't proper terms, but I'm not sure what to call it. I have watched a few videos on YouTube that claim to have the same noise, but they don't compare to the volume of mine. Is this easily fixable? Should I take it to the dealership, auto shop, or is this something that I could fix on my own? I am pretty handy, but definitely nowhere near a mechanic. Thank you for your help!

SOURCE: loud squealing noise
The noise is most likely the serpentine belt. Check it's condition and that of the belt tensioner. It sounds like the belt is slipping, causing the squealing noise u describe. As the belt warms up, it's getting a better 'grip' and the noise stops. Turning on the heat also turns on the a/c in newer cars, this added drag on the belt (one more component to turn, the a/c compressor) would explain why it happens when u turn on the heat. Is the belt original? If yes, it's time to change it, and check the belt tensioner to make sure it's doing it's job of keeping the belt snug on all the pulleys. Let me know how u make out.

Sonds like the fan to me. Yes, those are available separately. Water pump is internal inside of the timing cover and those are pretty bullet proof. Fan is most likely NG. Not that common. I have replaced only 1 in 12 years with Nissan.

SOURCE: loud wizzing/whistling noise
i don't know terms or names but i had the same problem. i found for me it was a whistling coming from the black box w/ hose and air filter that is on the right as you look under the hood. I opened it up and re sealed it and the noise is gone. Sorry I don't know the proper names but for me no more annoying whistle while the engine revs.

1st check the the oil level and the vehicle's oil type.(owners manuel) 5w30-10w30
10w 30 is a thicker oil and could possibly be causing this.(Moves more freely through the engine heats the oil)
