You're going to have to bleed the system alot on those trucks. Just remove the return line and have an assistant turn the steering wheel back and forth just enough to engage the pump and filling the resevour while doing this. Keep bleeding until you have a good flow of P/S fluid out with no air bubbles. This can take a while.

The problem is your intermediate steering shaft. It runs from the bottom of your steering column to the steering gearbox. While you are in the shop, though, now may be a good time to replace both the steering gear box and pump as a precautionary maintenance measure. It truly isn't necessary if you aren't having issues, but sometimes replacing one old part will open up the blinds to see another worn out part that needs replaced. It's cheaper to have the mechanic replace them while they have everything apart, than to have them take it apart on 3 separate occasions.

2 inches @ the steering wheel? i do not recommend tampering with the screw on the gearbox. that is for adjusting the sector shaft, usually only adjusted on high mileage gearboxes. since most of your driving is straight the gearbox worm gear wears out in that position, by adjusting it, it tightens up the gap in the gears the problem comes in when turning because it can be too tight on the ends of the shaft possibly binding up in your gearbox.and no matter what happens next it probably wont be good. try checking the couplings in the steering shaft. with the vehicle off, steering unlocked, have someone move the steering wheel left and right making sure not to move the tires, your looking to see play at all joints, couplings, or pivots. where you see one piece moving and the other not.

I just replace the power steering pump and gear box on 98 ram 1500 gas engine. When I apply brakes to turn corner, I lose power steering. Help please!

Unless you have a power steering assisted brake booster more common with a diesel, you may have a new pump issue like the flow control valve in the pump or air in the system yet, check for air bubbles or a milky looking fluid and the correct fluid. Try in a parking lot out of the way of traffic to put in neutral while moving, rev the motor slightly and brake as you would when the PS assist stops,by revving the motor just off idle this will increase the PS pressure it should act normal if it's a flow control issue and if the pump is capable of producing the correct pressure.

I started up my 99 dodge durango after work, as I was backing out of the parking spot the steering was so hard, I couldnt move it, the guys at work were saying its the power steering pump, so I have a...

Debris in the fluid. Power Steering fluid probably needs flushed to get all the metal filings out from the pumps that have already been replaced. Any time a pump goes out it will leave a little metal behind in the oil. i believe there is filters to put on after flushing to catch any that remains. You should be able to get the filter at any parts store. Also might want to check the rack and pinion.

I replaced my steering gear pump and have a new power steering pump and still hard turning at idle

You provided no vehicle or details to go by

What about worn & tight suspension parts

If you have a steering rack, then that most likely
was the issue & not the pump
