Have you checked the trunk switch in the glove compartment to make sure it is on? Just a thought.
To remove the rear seats: there are two tabs for the rear seat bottom one on the left and one on the right, look at the front bottom of the seat cushion. Pull the tabs and lift up on the seat it should come out easily. Once the seat bottom is out you will have access to the mounting hardware for the seat back. Good Luck.

Yes, this is a potential transmission rebuild due to low internal pressures, loose bands & worn clutches. I would not by this vehicle in this condition.
