Question about 1999 Land Rover Range Rover

2 Answers

I changed the battery in my 1999 Land Rover Range Rover. It does not start, but

It's been a couple of months since it was driven. Could this have to do with re-syncronizing? My only fob crapped out, so how can I do this if needed?

There's a good chance the car's battery is simply flat. You will have to recharge it

It's a brand new battery; how likely is that?

Well, not likely for sure. It's best to do a voltage check on the battery and alternator charging. Using a voltmeter, check that the battery voltage is in excess of 12.4 volts. Then check that with the vehicle running that the alternator is charging up to 14volts. Also using the ammeter function, disconnect the battery's positive lead, put the ammeter in series, and with the vehicle and all systems, including interior lights off, that the car isn't using more than 0.03 amps. Much above this and the vehicle is suffering a parasitic volt drain. If so then you should pull fuses one by one until the drain is just 0.03 amps. Whichever fuse pulled reduces it to that is the one responsible for the troubled circuit.

SOURCE: Programming a used 2005 Range Rover key FOB

Unfortunately I believe that will require a trip to the dealer, and a hefty price tag to go with it. Most dealers refuse to let anyone else handle their security systems. And most keys have the alarm keypad built in making it even more dealer specific. I wish I could give better news.

SOURCE: transfer case oil change- 1999 Land Rover Discovery II

No need for a diagram, to drain the oil, there's a drain plug on the bottom of the transfer box, under the handbrake drum. To fill, the fill plug is about in line with the centre of the handbrake drum and to the left. I think both plugs are 1/2" square. Fill to overflow with Texaco Multi-Gear 75W/90R. Takes about 2L or so.

Does the starter spin? Has the battery been load tested? Are the battery cables clean and tight on the the battery posts? Check all this and you will likely find one of them to be the problem.

Check the fuel pressure when the vehicle is cold and compare it with when it's hot. Also check the fuel return dump valve , that this isn't returning too much fuel.
