Holden Barina 1996 over heating

I have a Holden Barina 1996 it is over heating I can't drive it no longer than 10 min then it stops, temperature is in the reds. It spills the coolant when it is hot. The Thermostad was replaced an the radiator system is flushed so that can't be the problem. I don't know what else to do. Does somebody have an idea??

Sounds like the water pump is shot.

  • nickname_xxx Nov 09, 2012

I don't know. it doesent leak when it is not running hot. But when its hot there's so much pressure that it is boiling and spilling.

Check if there is antifreeze mix in with the oil, it dooesn,t sound good at all from your details, Of what is going on, that there could be a blopwin haed gasket, Or a Internal crack in the engine block,, But get the water pump check out , If there not working (Properly ) the car will heat up in no time flat., Buy driving it that way can Damage yoour engine (Permantly) Beyound repair, If that hasn,t happen (All Ready) to it. I hate to stay. ,

SOURCE: Holden Barina 1996 Car is

Hi! Was the thermostat and other items replaced due to this overheating? you say coolant level full? maybe your header tank is full but the system isn't? Try bleeding the system. From cold, start the engine with radiator/header tank cap OFF stay with the vehicle and have some very warm water handy. DON'T look over the filler but watch it as the car gets to operating temperature if the water drops drastically top it up with warm water again stay with the car it may take a long time to level out. If the car is bubbling furiously and doesn't want to settle then possible HEAD GASKET Failure or Water pump.
Does your oil look milky on the dipstick? is there an excessive amount of water coming out of the exhaust? are your hoses swelling with radiator/header tank cap on at operating temp?
Sorry to be the possible bearer of bad tiding if the Gasket has gone, but better to sort it now than cause irreprable damage?

There are two freeze out plugs at the rear of the block (V8) and many v6 engines. If coolant is coming from where you say, likely they have failed. Unfortunately, the only way to reach them is to remove engine or transmission, It's rare that they fail because they are "protected " by the bellhousing, but can still rot from the inside out. There is no sealer known to man that will fix this. It's a shame that you need to do all that work for a pair of $2.00 plugs, but that's what needs to happen.

SOURCE: 1994 Chevy Silverado temperature guage shows hot

Flushing the radiator, replacing the radiator cap, adding new coolant, replacing the sensors and a new thermostat solved the problem. Probably didn't need to do all of these things - but since we just purchased the truck, and given the fact that is probably hadn't been done in a while, we chose to do all of these things (which really didn't cost a whole lot), it's running like a charm now.

SOURCE: 1994 Honda Civic LX\overheating within 2 mile drive

Remove and raise upper hose at thermostat end and remove lower rad hose.
Fill rad with a hose and watch for flow from bottom rad hose and/ or bottom rad hose connecton.......water should fall though rad easily.
Honda rads are cheap.....any restriction....replace rad.

Remove thermostat....fill thermostat housing with hose and watch for water flow at bottom rad hose.
Flush good.

Remove heater hoses.......flush back and forth until a good flow is present "With heater control set to hot" if no or poor flow....replace heater core.

Stop leak can plug everything.

Also.......not likely causing over heating....but ....at your mileage,if you do not know if the timing belt has been changed.....CHANGE IT NOW!
Water pump is optional at this mileage.

It'll pay to have the crank sensor checked. They're known for heating up and stalling the car when they're no longer any good. Usually once it has cooled down the car will start but as soon as the sensor gets hot it'll stall again

Where do I find the fuel filter on a 96 Barina Swing

Sounds more like a failing electrical part. Could be fuel or ignition. Catch it when it won't start up, check for spark, check for fuel pressure. The filter is probably on the frame rail underneath car, where fuel line is routed from the tank up to the engine.
