On my 2002 Pontiac Bonneville, sometimes when you are driving it and you stop at a store or something and you get back in it and try to crank it, it won't do anything when you turn the key and if you

Test the battery charge, and alternator. The easiest way to eliminate the alternator is to start and remove the positive battery terminal, if it dies your alternator is bad. You can also go to Auto zone and they will test them for free. Sounds like you don't have enough cranking amps out of the battery though.

What causes a 2002 buick rendezvous to not start

Check the connections and have the battery tested. The other components (starter & alternator) can also be tested.

I have an 2002 Chevy Impala, when I go to crank my car it won't do anything. I have to play with the ignition by turning the key back and forth in order for it to crank. what is that?

Why do so many people ask about an Alternator ?

It has nothing to do with the starting system

You said you have to play with the key & ignition switch
that may be a place to start

Someone will need to disconnect the battery and check each circuit on the car for a drain. It can be anything from a faulty relay to a small light to a short in the wiring.

Yea

IF YOU PURCHASE A CHEAP TESTER AT YOUR LOCAL AUTO PARTS STORE, YOU CAN ELIMINATE TWO OF THESE POSSIBILITIES. IF YOUR HEADLIGHTS WORK THEN CHANCES ARE THE BATTERY HAS ENOUGH JUICE TO CRANK THE ENGINE. IF ALL YOU HEAR WHEN YOU CRANK IS A CLICKING SOUND, THEN CHARGE THE BATTERY. IF YOU DON'T HEAR ANYTHING WHEN YOU TURN THE KEY, THEN CHECK THE FUSES. YOU MAY HAVE A BLOWN FUSE UNDER THE HOOD. IF THE CAR CRANKS AFTER JUMPING THE BATTERY, THEN LOOK TOWARDS AN ALTERNATOR. I HOPE THIS HELPS. PLEASE KEEP ME POSTED. THANKS FOR USING FIX-YA AND FOR AN HONEST RATING.

Will not start

It sounds like you replaced the alternator because it was not charging the battery.
(Although no alternator can charge a shorted battery).

So now after replacing the alternator, the battery is still dead and can't be expected to charge until the engine runs for awhile. Well....the car starts and cranks from only the battery, not the alternator.

You could jump start the car with jumper cables from another vehicle to give the alternator a chance to do its job.

I suggest charging the battery from a stand-alone battery charger (about $50 any auto parts store, etc ).

You have not said anything yet that verifies that you have tested the battery.
If your battery is more than 2 or 3 years old, you may want to replace it.
They typically don't last much longer than that.

(By the way, I've never heard of a "crank sensor")
