SOURCE: Replaced the battery in 2002 camry now it won't idle

When you replace battery in 2002 Camry ECM tries to reset to factory levels. The reason it will not idle is that the throttle body is dirty and ECM thinks it should be new!! Clean throttle body with cleaner that is safe for tbs and this will fix your idle problem.

If it were an IAC problem it would do it in reverse also. A bad engine mount can cause shaking in one direction but not the other, Also check your vacum hoses and lines.

I have a 2002 Toyota Avalon that I purchased new that now has 295000 miles and has developed a fast idle condition at start up that idles between 1500 and 2000 rpm. It will not return to normal idle u

If you have not run the fault codes then that would be a good place to start. It will save you money as it will pinpoint the failing sensor.

I have a 1996 Mazda Protege 1.5l LX. I just cleaned the IAC valve today as well as replaced the thermostat and then put everything back together. During the rebuild the distributor cracked around where one...

Regardless of anything else, that cap needs to be replaced. It has to be moisture free to properly operate or you'll get arcing and that can cause even more damage.

A vacuum leak will cause the high idle and it is possible the IAC could be damaged. Most of them have small nylon parts in them and get damaged if you use certain cleaners (like carb cleaner) on them. You've also got that ridiculously complicated and expensive IAC (around $400 new) so I'm sure you don't just want to replace it. I've seen used ones on Ebay for around $50. I would save that for a last ditch effort.

Vacuum leaks can be difficult and frustrating to find. A smoke machine helps but they are expensive. If you are a smoker, you can always pick a vacuum port on the engine to blow smoke into. Then, you just look for anywhere smoke is escaping and you found your leak.

Since you had the IAC off, I would pay special attention to the hoses there and the seal between the IAC and the intake.

check the iac (idle/air valve) it controls the idle speed during the time the engine is started or coming to a stop. iac valve is located behind the throttle body . hope this will help you with your problem!!!!

2002 Santa Fe 2.7 V6 (California Car) 260,000 + miles. Engine idle will increase to about 1500 RPM and drop back to normal without notice, at times difficult to start (must hold throttle about half open)...

I faulty Idle Air Control valve (IAC) can cause these specific symptoms. You could try diconnecting the IAC valve (usually near the throttle body) and regulating the idle yourself. If the fluctuations go away and you are able to hold a constant idle position with the gas pedal (if vehicle will start), the IAC is the problem.

1991 Buick Regal, auto trans, 3.8L engine, problem; upon starting it would idle at higher than normal rpm and would not drop back down even when warmed up.

the problem may be a buildup of carbon or fuel varnish deposits in the idle speed control valve (also called the idle air control valve or IAC valve). The cure for this condition is to clean the valve with some aerosol throttle cleaner or engine top cleaner. disconnect the air ductwork from the throttle body. Start the car and run at about 1500 rpms spray the cleaner directly into the throat of the throttle body. Turn off the engine and let sit for a few minutes. Then repeat the process a cpouple of times. if that does not work, you can remove the IAC and clen it by spraying into the two holes on the underside of the valve. If not, then you need to replace the valve.

IAC valve problem. Nissan has a updated harness (with one way diode inside of the harness) to prevent backfeeding for the IAC valve and a new IAC valve also gets installed. That's where I would look. IAC valve or "idle air control" valve.
