Question about 1991 Isuzu Pickup

1 Answer

After hurrican sandy, I put some bad gas in the truck due to the gas shortage going on around here. This totally shot my system and I drained all the fuel and filled up when i could with a full tank of good high octane gas. From there i drove a clear and free 50 miles to my destination and my car sat for a few days. Got back in to drive home and the truck was losing power on the highways. I have changed the fuel filter and spark plugs and have been spraying carb cleaner but nothing has been working. O and i added gas treatment to the tank. Any ideas?

SOURCE: Fuel Gauge reads empty, but tank IS full

the float in your gas tank seems to have water in it....water is heavier than gas, that's why gas floats on top of water....try putting something like HEAT in it to dry up the water in your tank....

SOURCE: Isuzu Hombre pickup, 2.2L Vortec, Won't Start.

You need four things for an engine to run. 1. fuel 2. spark 3. compression 4. timing (spark at the right time. By your post it seems you have fuel and spark and you probably have compression unless you blew a head gasket. That leaves the timing. Check the timing and/or the timing belt or chain whichever you have.

SOURCE: My 88 isuzu picup. How do I adjust the idle speed?

I just repaired my '94 and it had similiar problems. Too much fuel was flowing through the carb. Mileage dropped way off.

I rebuilt the carb but the real problem was a bent tang on the float. This resulted in the failure of the needle valve to close completely, regardless of the float level.

SOURCE: lost power to engine

Check make sure all plugs are firing. Sounds like what my 93 Rodeo was doing-Idled okay but very rough when in gear. Turns out only 5 out of 6 plugs were firing due to a defective ignition module- 100 bucks later it works fine.

Hope this helps.

I have a case mx135. I have a fuel shortage. Every time I bleed the system all the diesel seems to drain back out into the tank

the shut off gasket failure or when you switch tanks the valve is not closing alway, i change the valve first, and if manual switch over the switch is not totally closing. install 2 way valve or 3way
switch between tanks, and refill options, set it up so only you know the right settings to get proper gas.

It turned out my son put a diesel gas according to the technician. Around how much is the cost do you think?

well you need to drain all diesel fuel, install a new fuel pump and filter, clean injectors, get it running and go from there, fix any code the comes on, one think.... fuel tank or fuel cell called also a bladder may need to be replace if collapsed due to diesel caracteristics, the longer you wait the more damage, hope you did not drain EV battery down to zero charge, it takes an special charger only available at your dealer by request to Toyota head quarters

I have a 1977 dodge van only starts with starting fluid runs good after that-

First thing to do is check the choke and make sure it works. When the engine is cold enough to need starting fluid, remove the air breather completely from the carb. get yourself positioned so you can see directly into the carb and open the throttle linkage all the way. You should see 2 things happen. One, the choke plate should close at least part way and 2, you should see a shot of gas going into the barrels. If you're not sure about the gas, hold the choke plate open and giver the linkage another shot.
If the choke plate didn't close, hold it closed with your fingers and try to start the truck. It should start, back off the choke plate a little and after a couple minutes it should be good to go.
If there was no gas, either it drains off or the fuel pump is getting weak. If the truck doesn't give you any trouble under moderate to hard acceleration, it's not likely the fuel pump. Trouble such as coughing or sputtering. These go away when you ease up on the throttle.
If it's the carb draining off then it is time for a rebuild. But, check around before you send it out. Call around and get a price for a total rebuild and then check online. It may be just as cheap or cheaper to buy new from someone like Summit Racing.

Can not remove 60/40 front seat from vehicle due to power seat motors are inoperative due to storm damage sandy hurricane, con not get to bolts holding complete seat to floor

The motors are cable driven. There is a spot on the back of the motors with a screwdriver slot in it. You should be able (using a long 12" or better driver and manually turn the motors if not you might be able to get your hand on the cables and turn them. Good luck.

misfire is due to a faulty coilpack or bad wire or connection. the drain on your system is another issue. youll have to chase it down with a voltmeter

Battery will drain when sitting for a period of time, the alternator puts out 14 volts, installed new battery but problem persists. something is draining the battery, please help

take one of the battery cables off the battery and see if it sparks while removing it, if it does you have a shortage some where in the elect. system , this is the possible cause of the battery drain. If a shortage is present, you'll need to have wind or a fan blowing at the battery to keep gases from the battery blown away, as they are explosive,go to the fuse panel and remove one fuse, go to battery and touch the cable to the post, if it sparks, replace fuse and pull another one, once you pull a fuse and don't get sparks , then you located part of the problem, you have a shortage in this part of the system. At least this will let you know where the short is. Also, auto part stores sell a little switch which disconnects the battery, you can install one of these and flip the switch when not in use and prevent the power drainage.
