On my 2002 this was caused by the flexible exhaust pipe located right after the exhaust manifold.

SOURCE: Tools needed for replacing 2001 Hyundai Tiburon CV joints.

CV joints are not hard if you do some research. Get a shop manual first. You will need a good jack, two jack stands. I am not that fam. with the Hyundai, but some fwd cars have med/ large bearing retaining bolts so you will need 1/2 drive socket set up to say 33 mm. You will need a whole day or 2 to do this. set aside that much time in case of some road block. You have to pull both wheels and fender wells. On some cars you will have to pull the struts or the lower arms that hold them to the body to give room to pull out the cv assy. Do one at the time on some fwd's if you pull both the ring gears can fall out of sync and thats not good. Buy the complete cv axel rebuilt if you can. Work slow, take pictures as you go, be careful.

You have to change the flexy pipe. The lambda sensor is behind that. And its the sensor that is giving you the problems by not getting the correct readings from the exhaust gasses.

Truck has a fluttering noise at exhaust pipe

Ron, A lot of cars and trucks experience this,Is your engine running good and tuned up, if you find no exhaust leak(including around the manifolds) and know baffles in mufflers are OK and not loose, you may have to consider it normal. I have not done it, some say to install an H or X pipe ahead of mufflers to equalize exhaust pressure and get rid of noise. Check the attached links, instruction and guides, Good luck

What is causing loud muffler-like sound?

Could be a broken joint between the muffler and the exhaust pipe.
Could be a loose coupler on the exhaust pipe .

you could get it checked at an exhaust service center where they can hoist car up and look under the car and give you a report on iys cause and likely cost to fix.

Loud grinding noise (a bit like a football rattle) at the front of a 97 Jeep Grand Cherokee, dependant on road speed not engine revs, It virtually disappears in reverse. Any idea's? Thanks Pete

Hi, Going throught this one myself, I have had front diff open = OK, transfer case = OK, Auto = Ok. found out that a few have had problems with front bushes ( rubber joints) which I replaced recently, they are harder than the gen part and will vibrate causing a "drone" sound at certain speeds, particularly 40-60 kmh and 100kmh (iam in Australia).
If you have replace your bushes or thery may have become hard????

The pipe is making loud shaking noise

which pipe, i assume you are referring to an exhaust pipe, do u have a loud (more than usual) exhaust sound, if so, the exhaust pipe is cracked or split, if not, then the exhaust hangers (mahe of heavy duty rubber) are split/broken, causing it to shake OR is the engine shaking as well, or just the exhaust, too many questions, need to specify

What are possible causes of a rear end "drone" that doesn't happen every time I drive it, only occasionally?

You need to have the fluid level in your rear differential checked. When you say drone that can also be the fuel pump making a noise. Have you replace the fuel filter in the last 50,000 miles. If not replace it as a partially clogged fuel filter will cause the fuel pump to overwork. It can also be the exhaust system vibrating against the frame. Check the exhaust system mounts.

Driving my 1988 subaru GL wagon theres a grinding and rubbing noise coming from the back. it also had my engine smelling like burnt oil. I put transmission oil in it, greased my bearings, greased my C/V...

My L series throws grease up onto the exhaust pipes causing the smell, so you could have split boots on your CV joints. That could account for the smell. The noise could be coming from a rear brake, something in drum like an auto adjuster come adrift If you do have damaged CV joint boots, you will need to have them replaced immediately or you will wear these joints out very quickly.

A heavy Ting noise when i engage gear.

It could possibly be the joints in the exhaust manifold. The body and engine may flex differently in reverse. Since the engine is cold as are the pipes, a gap in a exhaust flange gasket could transmit a noise until everything heats up.
