Why do I have an intermittent problem with ABS and power steering lights?

Bad or loose intermittent wire connections to and from sensors. Some unauthorised mechanic has been working on the car? Take it back and talk to the service manager, or the shop owner.

Intermittent starting

Yes. When was the last time you had the starter changed? Has anyone crawled under the vehicle to check for a loose starter? If the starter does not engage it may be the starter solenoid ( the thing that drives the gears into contact before the starter actually turns ). This might not be ramming the gears together properly and that will cause the grinding noise, as well as an intermittent start.

Intermittent spark: 1994 Mercury Capri

I would suspect that you have a loose connection inside the distributor or in the ignition wiring. Give it a good visual inspection. Also, after dark, have someone start the car while you observe under the hood for any arcing or sparking. Doing this at night allows you to see where trouble may be located. Let me know what you find. saailer@att.net

Check the negative ground coming off the battery to the block. A bad engine ground will cause an intermittent starting problem.

I'm experieince intermittent starting . One day the jeep will crank & start, the next day when I attempt to start it I get nothing.

Its the starter solenoid. Remove 2 bolts and the lead wire and pull the starter out. most local parts stores can test the starter for you, but if the problem is intermittent it might not show up during their test.

On my jeep, after pulling the starter, I disassembled the solenoid. The actual failure of the solenoid was the electrical contact. I cleaned off the corrosion and have had no problems for 40,000 miles.
